647. فاطمة عليهاالسلام بنت رسول اللّه صلى الله عليه و آلهـ

647. Fatima (AS), daughter of the Messenger of God (SA) said,

خِطابا لِقَومٍ وَقَفوا خَلفَ بابِ بَيتِها لِأَخذِ البَيعَةِ مِنَ الإِمامِ عَلِيٍّ عليه السلام ـ:

in addressing a group of people who stood behind her door to take the allegiance from Imam Ali (AS) by force:

لا عَهدَ لي بِقَومٍ أسوَأَ مَحضَرا مِنكُم ؛

 “I do not know of a people worse than you.

تَرَكتُم رَسولَ اللّهِ صلى الله عليه و آله جِنازَةً بَينَ أيدينا ،

You left the dead body of the Messenger of God (SA) with us

وقَطَعتُم أمرَكُم فيما بَينَكُم ،

and set out to decide your affair amongst yourselves,

ولَم تُؤَمِّرونا ،

denied our leadership

ولَم تَرَوا لَنا حَقّا ،

and overlooked our rights

كَأَنَّكُم لَم تَعلَموا ما قالَ يَومَ غَديرِ خُمٍّ !

as if you did not know what he said on the day of Ghadir Khumm!

وَاللّهِ لَقَد عَقَدَ لَهُ يَومَئِذٍ الوَلاءَ ؛

By God, on that day, he concluded for him the support

لِيَقطَعَ مِنكُم بِذلِكَ مِنهَا الرَّجاءَ ،

in order to cut your aspirations for it,

ولكِنَّكُم قَطَعتُمُ الأَسبابَ بَينَكُم وبَينَ نَبِيِّكُم ،

but you have severed relations between you and your Prophet.

وَاللّهُ حَسيبٌ بَينَنا وبَينَكُم فِي الدُّنيا وَالآخِرَةِ .

God is sufficient [to judge] between us and you in the world and the Hereafter.”

648. الإمام الحسن عليه السلام

648. Imam al-Hasan (AS) said,

ـ في خُطبَةٍ لَهُ بَعدَ استِشهادِ أبيهِ عليه السلام ـ:

in a sermon after the martyrdom of his father (AS):

يا أيُّهَا النّاسُ !

“O people!

لَقَد فارَقَكُم أمسِ رَجُلٌ ما سَبَقَهُ الأَوَّلونَ ،

Yesterday a man parted from you who was not surpassed by the former generations

ولايُدرِكُهُ الآخِرونَ ،

nor will he be reached by the later generations.

ولَقَد كانَ رَسولُ اللّهِ صلى الله عليه و آله يَبعَثُهُ المَبعَثَ فُيُعطيهِ الرّايَةَ ،

The Messenger of God (SA) would send him on missions and give him the standard,

فَما يَرجِعُ حَتّى يَفتَحَ اللّهُ عَلَيهِ ،

so he would not return until God made him victorious,

جِبريلُ عَن يَمينِهِ ، وميكائيلُ عَن شِمالِهِ ،

with Gabriel on his right and Michael on his left.

ما تَرَكَ بَيضاءَ ولا صَفراءَ إلّا سَبعَمِئَةِ دِرهَمٍ فَضَلَت مِن عَطائِهِ ،

He did not leave any Dinars or Dirhams except seven hundred remained from his stipend,

أرادَ أن يَشتَرِيَ بِها خادِما .

with which he wanted to buy a servant.”

649. تاريخ دمشق عن مولى لحذيفة:

649. Tarikh Dimashq, reporting from a retainer of Hudhayfah, who said:

 كانَ حُسَينُ بنُ عَلِيٍّ آخِذا بِذِراعي في أيّامِ المَوسِمِ ،

“Husain ibn Ali took me by my arm during the days of the Pilgrimage

قالَ : ورَجُلٌ خَلفَنا يَقولُ :

when a person behind us said:

اللّهُمَّ اغفِر لَهُ ولِاُمِّهِ ،

‘O God! Forgive him and his mother’;

فَأَطالَ ذلِكَ ، فَتَرَكَ الحُسَينُ ذِراعي

and he continued until Husain left my arm

وأقبَلَ عَلَيهِ فَقالَ :

and went to him and said:

قَد آذَيتَنا مُنذُ اليَومِ ،

‘ Indeed, you have annoyed us today;

تَستَغفِرُ لي ولِاُمّي وتَترُكُ أبي ؟

you seek forgiveness for me and my mother and abondon my father,

وأبي خَيرٌ مِنّي ومِن اُمّي .

when my father is better than me and my mother?’ ”

650. الإمام زين العابدين عليه السلام

650. Imam Zayn al-Abidin (AS) said,

ـ مِن كَلامِهِ في مَجلِسِ يَزيدَ ـ:

in his sermon in the session of Yazid:

أنَا ابنُ عَلِيٍّ المُرتَضى ،

“I am the son of Ali al-Murtada,

أنَا ابنُ مَن ضَرَبَ خَراطيمَ الخَلقِ

I am the son of the one who struck at the noses of the [disbelieving] people

حَتّى قالوا لا إلهَ إلَا اللّهُ ،

until they said that there is no god but God.

أنَا ابنُ مَن ضَرَبَ بَينَ يَدَي رَسولِ اللّهِ صلى الله عليه و آله بِسَيفَينِ ،

I am the son of the one who fought with two swords in front of the Messenger of God,

وطَعَنَ بِرُمحَينِ ،

struck with two spears,

وهاجَرَ الهِجرَتَينِ ،

fulfilled the two migrations,

وبايَعَ البَيعَتَينِ ،

paid the two allegiances,

وصَلَّى القِبلَتَينِ ،

prayed towards the two Qiblahs,

وقاتَلَ بِبَدرٍ وحُنَينٍ ،

fought at Badr and Hunayn,

ولَم يَكفُر بِاللّهِ طَرفَةَ عَينٍ ،

and did not disbelieve in God [for as brief as] the blinking of an eye.

أنَا ابنُ صالِحِ المُؤمِنينَ ،

I am a son of the most righteous of the believers,

ووارِثِ النَّبِيّينَ ،

the heir to the prophets,

وقامِعِ المُلحِدينَ ،

the suppresser of the atheists,

ويَعسوبِ المُسلِمينَ ،

the chief of the Muslims,

ونورِ المُجاهِدينَ ،

the light of the strivers [in the path of God],

وزَينِ العابِدينَ ،

the ornament of the worshippers,

وتاجِ البَكّائينَ ،

the crown of the weepers,

وأصبَرِ الصّابِرينَ ،

the most patient of the patient,

وأفضَلِ القائِمينَ مِن آلِ ياسينَ ،

and the best of those who stood [in prayer] from the progeny of Yasin

ورَسولِ رَبِّ العالَمينَ .

and the Messenger of the Lord of the worlds.

 أنَا ابنُ المُؤَيَّدِ بِجَبرَئيلَ ،

I am the son of the one who was aided by Gabriel

المَنصورِ بِميكائيلَ ،

and supported by Michael.

أنَا ابنُ المُحامي عَن حَرَمِ المُسلِمينَ ،

I am the son of the one who defended the sanctuary of the Muslims,

وقاتِلِ النّاكِثينَ وَالقاسِطينَ وَالمارِقينَ ،

killed the Breakers, the Unjust and the Renegades

وَالمُجاهِدِ أعداءَهُ النّاصِبينَ ،

and fought the hostile enemies.

وأفخَرِ مَن مَشى مِن قُرَيشٍ أجمَعينَ ،

He was the most honoured among all of the Quraysh.

وأوَّلِ مَن أجابَ وَاستَجابَ لِلّهِ مِنَ المُؤمِنينَ ،

He was the first who answered and responded to the call of God from among the believers.

وأقدَمِ السّابِقينَ ،

He was the first of the foremost,

وقاصِمِ المُعتَدينَ ،

the one who broke the backs of the transgressors,

ومُبيرِ المُشرِكينَ ،

the destroyer of the polytheists

وسَهمٍ مِن مَرامِي اللّهِ عَلَى المُنافِقينَ ،

and the arrow shot by God upon the hypocrites.

ولِسانِ حِكمَةِ العابِدينَ ،

He was the words of wisdom of the worshippers,

ناصِرِ دينِ اللّهِ ،

the helper of the religion of God,

ووَلِيِّ أمرِ اللّهِ ،

guardian of the command of God,

وبُستانِ حِكمَةِ اللّهِ ،

the garden of the wisdom of God

وعَيبَةِ عِلمِ اللّهِ .

and the vessel of the knowledge of God.

 سَمِحٌ ، سَخِيٌّ ،

He was magnanimous, generous,

بُهلولٌ

humorous,

زَكِيٌّ

wise,

أبطَحِيٌّ

from the land of Batha,

رَضِيٌّ مَرضِيٌّ ،

well-pleased, well-pleasing,

مِقدامٌ هَمّامٌ ،

courageous, vibrant,

صابِرٌ صَوّامٌ ،

tolerant, fasting regularly,

مُهَذَّبٌ قَوّامٌ ،

refined, standing excessively in prayer,

شُجاعٌ قَمقامٌ،

brave and munificent.

قاطِعُ الأَصلابِ ،

He was the one who severed the lineages [of the enemies]

ومُفَرِّقُ الأَحزابِ ،

and scattered the armies.

أربَطُهُم جَنانا ،

He had the most stable heart [on the battlefield],

وأطبَقُهُم عِنانا ،

was the firmest of men in seizing the bridle,

وأجرَأُهُم لِسانا ،

had the bravest tongue,

وأمضاهُم عَزيمَةً ،

an accomplishing determination,

وأشَدُّهُم شَكيمَةً،

the strongest conviction,

أسدٌ باسِلٌ ،

was a fearless lion

وغَيثٌ هاطِلٌ .

and a raging downpour

 يَطحَنُهُم فِي الحُروبِ ـ إذَا ازدَلَفَتِ الأَسِنَّةُ وقَرُبَتِ الأَعِنَّةُ ـ طَحنَ الرَّحى ،

that crushed the enemy in battles like the grinding of a hand mill.

ويَذروهُم ذَروَ الرّيحِ الهَشيمِ ،

He would scatter them as the storm scatters the straw.

لَيثُ الحِجازِ ،

He was the lion of Hijaz,

وصاحِبُ الإِعجازِ ،

possessor of eloquence

وكَبشُ العِراقِ ،

and the hero [or athlete] of Iraq.

الإِمامُ بِالنَّصِّ وَالاِستِحقاقِ ،

He was appointed by designation (nass) and merit and the rightful Imam.

مَكِّيٌّ مَدَنِيٌّ ،

He was of Mecca, Madinah,

أبطَحِيٌّ تِهامِيٌّ ،

Batha, Tiham,

خَيفِيٌّ عَقَبِيٌّ ،

Khayf, Aqaba, [Those who paid the first allegiance at Aqabah.]

بَدرِيٌّ اُحُدِيٌّ ، شَجَرِيٌّ

Badr, Uhud, Shajara1697

مُهاجِرِيٌّ ،

and an Emigrant.

مِنَ العَرَبِ سَيِّدُها ،

He was the leader of the Arabs

ومِنَ الوَغى لَيثُها .

and the champion of the warriors.

وارِثُ المَشعَرَينِ ،

He is the heir of Mashar and Arafat,

وأبُو السِّبطَينِ الحَسَنِ وَالحُسَينِ ،

the father of the two grandchildren [of the Messenger of God] Hasan and Husain,

مَظهَرُ العَجائِبِ ،

the manifestation of wonders,

ومُفَرِّقُ الكَتائِبِ ،

separator of battalions

وَالشِّهابُ الثّاقبُ ،

the penetrating star,

وَالنّورُ العاقِبُ ،

a constant light,

أسَدُ اللّهِ الغالِبُ ،

the overpowering lion of God,

مَطلوبُ كُلِّ طالِبٍ ،

the sought of every seeker

غالِبُ كُلِّ غالِبٍ ،

and the conqueror of every conqueror.

ذاكَ جَدّي عَلِيُّ بنُ أبي طالِبٍ .

That is my grandfather Ali ibn Abi Talib.”

651. الإمام الباقر عليه السلام :

651. Imam al-Baqir (AS) said:

إنَّ اللّهَ عَزَّ وجَلَّ نَصَبَ عَلِيّا عليه السلام عَلَما بَينَهُ وبَينَ خَلقِهِ ،

“ Indeed, God has appointed Ali (AS) as a standard between Him and His creation.

فَمَن عَرَفَهُ كانَ مُؤمِنا ،

Whoever knows him is a believer;

ومَن أنكَرَهُ كانَ كافِرا ،

whoever denies him is a disbeliever;

ومَن جَهِلَهُ كانَ ضالّاً ،

whoever is ignorant of him is misguided;

ومَن نَصَبَ مَعَهُ شَيئا كانَ مُشرِكا ،

and whoever sets up somebody with him is a polytheist.

ومَن جاءَ بِوِلايَتِهِ دَخَلَ الجَنَّةَ ،

Whoever comes with his friendship enters Paradise

ومَن جاءَ بِعَداوَتِهِ دَخَلَ النّارَ .

and whoever comes with his enmity enters the Fire.”

652. الإمام الصادق عليه السلام

652. Imam al-Sadiq (AS) said,

ـ لِيونُسَ بنِ أبي وَهبٍ ـ:

to Yunus ibn Abu Wahab, who said:

اِعلَم أنَّ أميرَ المُؤمِنينَ عليه السلام أفضَلُ عِندَ اللّهِ مِنَ الأِئِمَّةِ كُلِّهِم ،

“Know that the Commander of the Faithful (AS) is better than all the Imams in the sight of God.

ولَهُ ثَوابُ أعمالِهِم ،

To him belongs the reward of their deeds

وعَلى قَدرِ أعمالِهِم فُضِّلوا .

and in accordance with their deed have they been preferred.”

653. الإمام الكاظم عليه السلام :

653. Imam al-Kazim (AS) said:

إنَّ عَلِيّا عليه السلام بابٌ مِن أبوابِ الهُدى ؛

“ Indeed, Ali (AS) is one of the doors of guidance;

فَمَن دَخَلَ مِن بابِ عَلِيٍّ كانَ مُؤمِنا ،

whoever enters from the door of Ali is a believer.

ومَن خَرَجَ مِنهُ كانَ كافِرا ،

Whoever goes forth from it is a disbeliever.

ومَن لَم يَدخُل فيهِ ولَم يَخرُج مِنهُ

Whoever does not enter or and does not go forth from it,

كانَ فِي الطَّبَقَةِ الَّذينَ لِلّهِ فيهِمُ المَشيئَةُ .

he is of the class who are left to the will of God.”

654. الإمام الرضا عليه السلام

654. Imam al-Rida (AS) said,

ـ في كِتابِهِ إلَى المَأمونِ

in his letter to al-Ma’mun,

حينَ سَأَلَهُ عَن مَحضِ الإِسلامِ ـ:

when he asked him about pure Islam:

إنَّ الدَّليلَ بَعدَهُ [رَسولِ اللّه صلى الله عليه و آله ]وَالحُجَّةَ عَلَى المُؤمِنينَ ،

“ Indeed, the guide and argument against the believers after the Messenger of God (SA),

وَالقائِمَ بِأَمرِ المُسلِمينَ ،

the manager of the affairs of the Muslims,

وَالنّاطِقَ عَنِ القُرآنِ ،

the spokesman of the Qur’an

وَالعالِمَ بِأَحكامِهِ ، أخوهُ وخَليفَتُهُ ووَصِيُّهُ ووَلِيُّهُ ،

and the knower of its rulings is his brother, vicegerent‚ executor, friend

وَالَّذي كانَ مِنهُ بِمَنزِلَةِ هارونَ مِن موسى،

and who was in relation to him is as Aaron was in relation to Moses,

عَلِيُّ بنُ أبيطالِبٍ عليه السلام أميرُالمُؤمِنينَ،

Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS), the Commander of the Faithful,

وإمامُ المُتَّقينَ،

the Imam of the God-wary,

وقائِدُ الغُرِّ المُحَجَّلينَ ،

the leader of the honourable bright-foreheaded,

وأفضَلُ الوَصِيّينَ ،

the best of the executors

ووارِثُ عِلمِ النَّبِيّينَ وَالمُرسَلينَ .

and the inheritor of the knowledge of the prophets and messengers.”

655. الإمام الجواد عليه السلام :

655. Imam al-Jawad (AS) said:

عَلَّمَ رَسولُ اللّهِ صلى الله عليه و آله عَلِيّا عليه السلام ألفَ كَلِمَةٍ ،

“The Messenger of God (SA) taught Ali (AS) a thousand words,

كُلُّ كَلِمَةٍ يَفتَحُ ألفَ كَلِمَةٍ .

each of which opens up another thousand words.”

656. الإمام الهادي عليه السلام

656. Imam al-Hadi (AS) said,

ـ في زِيارَةِ صاحِبِ الأَمرِ عليه السلام ـ:

concerning the visit of the Leader of the Age (i.e. Imam Mahdi):

اللّهُمَّ وصَلِّ عَلى وَلِيِّكَ ،

“O God send salutations on your friend,

ودَيّانِ دينِكِ ،

leader of your religion,

وَالقائِمِ بِالقِسطِ مِن بَعدِ نَبِيِّكَ عَلِيِّ بنِ أبي طالِبٍ أميرِ المُؤمِنينَ ،

the undertaker of justice after your Prophet, Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS), the Commander of the Faithful,

وإمامِ المُتَّقينَ ،

the Imam of the God-wary,

وسَيِّدِ الوَصِيّينَ ،

the master of the executors,

ويَعسوبِ الدّينِ ،

the chief of the religion,

وقائِدِ الغُرِّ المُحَجَّلينَ ،

the leader of the honourable bright-foreheaded,

قِبلَةِ العارِفينَ ،

the Qibla [i.e. ideal] of the gnostics,

وعَلَمِ المُهتَدينَ ،

the star of the guided,

وعُروَتِكَ الوُثقى ،

Your firmest handle,

وحَبلِكَ المَتينِ ،

Your strong cord

وخَليفَةِ رَسولِكَ عَلَى النّاسِ أجمَعينَ ،

and the vicegerent of your Messenger over all the people

ووَصِيِّهِ فِي الدُّنيا وَالدّينِ .

and his executor in this world and in the religion.”1704

657. الإمام العسكري عليه السلام

657. Imam al-Askari (AS) said,

ـ فِي الصَّلاةِ عَلَى الإِمامِ عَلِيٍّ عليه السلام ـ:

in salutations to Imam Ali (AS):

اللّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلى أميرِ المُؤمِنينَ عَلِيِّ بنِ أبي طالِبٍ ،

“O God send blessings on the Commander of the believers, Ali ibn Abi Talib,

أخي نَبِيِّكَ ،

the brother of Your Prophet,

ووَصِيِّهِ ،

his executor,

ووَلِيِّهِ ،

his friend,

وصَفِيِّهِ ،

his choice,

ووَزيرِهِ ،

his vizier,

ومُستَودَعِ عِلمِهِ ،

repository of his knowledge,

ومَوضِعِ سِرِّهِ ،

place of his secrets,

وبابِ حِكمَتِهِ ،

the gate of his wisdom,

وَالنّاطِقِ بِحُجَّتِهِ ،

the speaker with his arguments,

وَالدّاعي إلى شَريعَتِهِ ،

the caller to his path,

وخَليفَتِهِ في اُمَّتِهِ ،

his vicegerent in his Community,

ومُفَرِّجِ الكُرَبِ عَن وَجهِهِ ،

the remover of his anxiety and anguish,

قاصِمِ الكَفَرَةِ ،

the smasher of the disbelievers,

ومُرغِمِ الفَجَرَةِ ،

the conqueror of the libertine,

الَّذي جَعَلتَهُ مِن نَبِيِّكَ بِمَنزِلَةِ هارونَ مِن موسى .

whom You appointed in relation to Your Prophet as Aaron was in relation to Moses.

 اللّهُمَّ والِ مَن والاهُ ،

O God, befriend him who befriends him,

وعادِ مَن عاداهُ ،

show enmity to him enmity who shows enmity to him,

وَانصُر مَن نَصَرَهُ ،

help him who helps him,

وَاخذُل مَن خَذَلَهُ ،

abandon him who abandons him,

وَالعَن مَن نَصَبَ لَهُ

curse those who wage war against him,

مِنَ الأَوَّلينَ وَالآخِرينَ ،

men of early and later folk;

وصَلِّ عَلَيهِ أفضَلَ ما صَلَّيتَ عَلى أحَدٍ مِن أوصِياءِ أنبِيائِكَ

and bless him, the best of which You blessed any one among the executors of Your prophets,

يا رَبَّ العالَمينَ .

O Lord of the worlds.”

658. الإمام المهدي عليه السلامـ في دُعائِهِ ـ:

658. Imam al-Mahdi (AS) said, in his supplication:

اللّهُمَّ . . . وصَلِّ عَلى أميرِ المُؤمِنينَ ،

“O God! ... Bless the Commander of the Faithful,

ووارِثِ المُرسَلينَ ،

the inheritor of the messengers,

وقائِدِ الغُرِّ المُحَجَّلينَ ،

the leader of the honourable bright-foreheaded,

وسَيِّدِ الوَصِيّينَ ،

the master of the executors,

وحُجَّةِ رَبِّ العالَمينَ .

and the Proof of the Lord of all worlds.”
