أ - النفس النبی

He is the Soul of the Prophet

553. الإمام عليّ عليه السلام :

553. Imam Ali (AS) said:

إنَّ النَّصارَى ادَّعَوا أمرا

“The Christians claimed something,

فَأَنزَلَ اللّهُ عَزَّ وجَلَّ فيهِ :  

so God revealed His words:

«فَمَنْ حَآجَّكَ فِيهِ مِن بَعْدِ مَا جَآءَكَ مِنَ الْعِلْمِ فَقُلْ تَعَالَوْاْ نَدْعُ أَبْنَآءَنَا وَأَبْنَآءَكُمْ وَنِسَآءَنَا وَنِسَآءَكُمْ وَأَنفُسَنَا وَأَنفُسَكُمْ ثُمَّ نَبْتَهِلْ فَنَجْعَل لَّعْنَتَ اللَّهِ عَلَى الْكَـذِبِينَ»  ،

“Should anyone argue with you concerning him, after the knowledge that has come to you, say,‘ Come! Let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women, our souls and your souls, then let us pray earnestly and call down God’s curse upon the liars’ ”. Quran, 3:61

فَكانَت نَفسي نَفسُ رَسولِ اللّهِ صلى الله عليه و آله ؛

Hence, my soul was the soul of the Messenger of God (SA),

وَالنِّساءُ فاطِمَةُ عليهاالسلام ، وَالأَبناء الحَسَنُ وَالحُسَينُ .

ب ـ شاهِدٌ مِنهُ

A Witness from Him

554. رسول اللّه صلى الله عليه و آله : «

554. The Prophet (SA) said:

أَفَمَن كَانَ عَلَى بَيِّنَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّهِ»  : أنَا ،  «وَ يَتْلُوهُ شَاهِدٌ مِّنْهُ»  :

His words “Is he who stands on a manifest proof from his Lord” refer to me and His words “and whom a witness of his own [family] follows” Quran, 11: 17

ج ـ الَّذي عِندَهُ عِلمُ الكِتابِ

He Who Has Knowledge of the Book

555. الكافي عن بريد بن معاوية :قُلتُ لِأَبي جَعفَرٍ عليه السلام :  

555. Al-Kafi, reporting from Burayd ibn Muawiyah, who said:

«قُلْ كَفَى بِاللَّهِ شَهِيدَا بَيْنِى وَ بَيْنَـكُمْ وَ مَنْ عِندَهُ عِلْمُ الْكِتَـبِ»  ؟

 “I said to Abu Ja‘far (AS): “Say, ‘God suffices as a witness between me and you, and he who possesses the knowledge of the Book’”. Quran, 13:43

قالَ عليه السلام : إيّانا عَنى ،

He said: ‘It refers to us:

وعَلِيٌّ عليه السلام أوَّلُنا وأفضَلُنا وخَيرُنا بَعدَ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه و آله .

Ali (AS) is the first of us, the most excellent of us and the best of us after the Prophet (SA).’ ”

د ـ المُؤمِنُ

The Believer

556. تفسير الطبري عن عطاء بن يسارـ فِي الآيَةِ الكَريمَةِ ـ:

556. Tafsir al-Tabari, reporting from Ata ibn Yasar that he said concerning the holy verse above that

نَزَلَت بِالمَدينَةِ في عَلِيِّ بنِ أبي طالِبٍ عليه السلام ، وَالوَليدِ بنِ عُقبَةَ بنِ أبي مُعَيطٍ ؛

it was revealed in Madinah concerning Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS) and al-Walid ibn Uqbah ibn Abi Muait.

كانَ بَينَ الوَليدِ وبَينَ عَلِيٍّ عليه السلام كَلامٌ ،

There was an exchange of words between al-Walid and Ali (AS).

فَقالَ الوَليدُ بنُ عُقبَةَ :

Al-Walid ibn Uqbah said:

أنَا أبسَطُ مِنكَ لِسانا ،

“I am more eloquent in speech than you,

وأحَدُّ مِنكَ سِنانا ،

sharper in spearheading than you

وأرَدُّ مِنكَ لِلكَتيبَةِ !

and more able to repel a battalion than you are.’

فَقالَ عَلِيٌّ عليه السلام : اُسكُت ؛ فَإِنَّكَ فاسِقٌ .

Ali (AS) said: ‘Be silent, for you are a transgressor!’

 فَأَنزَلَ اللّهُ فيهِما :  

Then God revealed concerning them:

«أَفَمَن كَانَ مُؤْمِنًا كَمَن كَانَ فَاسِقًا لَا يَسْتَوُونَ»

“Is he who has been a believer like unto him who has been a transgressor? They are not equal”

 إلى قوله :  

through His words:

«بِهِ تُكَذِّبُونَ»  .

 “Which you used to deny.” Quran, 32:18.

The Outstripper

557. الأمالي للمفيد عن ابن عبّاس:

557. Al-Amali, by al-Mufid, reporting from Ibn Abbas, who said:

 سَأَلتُ رَسولَ اللّهِ صلى الله عليه و آله عَن قَولِ اللّهِ عَزَّ وجَلَّ :  

“I asked the Messenger of God (SA) about God’s words:

«وَ السَّـبِقُونَ السَّـبِقُونَ * أُوْلَئِكَ الْمُقَرَّبُونَ * فِى جَنَّـتِ النَّعِيمِ»  ،

“And the outstrippers: the outstrippers. They are the ones brought near to God who will reside in the gardens of bliss.” Quran, 56:10-11.

فَقالَ صلى الله عليه و آله : قالَ لي جَبرَئيلُ :

He (SA) said: Gabriel said to me:

ذاكَ عَلِيٌّ وشيعَتُهُ ؛

They are Ali and his Shia.

هُمُ السّابِقونَ إلَى الجَنَّةِ ،

They are the outstrippers to Paradise,

المُقَرَّبونَ إلَى اللّهِ تَعالى بِكَرامَتِهِ لَهُم .

who are brought near to God, the Exalted‚ by His honour to them.’ ”

و ـ صالِحُ المُؤمِنينَ

The Righteous among the Believers

558. رسول اللّه صلى الله عليه و آله :

558. The Prophet (SA) said:

صالِحُ المُؤمِنينَ عَلِيُّ بنُ أبي طالِبٍ .

 “The righteous among the believers is Ali ibn Abi Talib.”

ز ـ خَيرُ البَرِيَّةِ

The Best of Creation

559. رسول اللّه صلى الله عليه و آلهـ في قَولِهِ تَعالى : 

559. The Prophet (SA) said, concerning God’s words:

«أُوْلَئِكَ هُمْ خَيْرُ الْبَرِيَّةِ»  ـ:

“It is they who are the best of creatures”: Quran, 98:7

أنتَ يا عَلِيُّ وشيعَتُكَ .

These refer to you, O ‘Ali and your Shia.”

560. الإمام الباقر عليه السلام :

560. Imam al-Baqir (AS) said:

إنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه و آله قالَ :

“The Prophet (SA) said:

يا عَلِيُّ  «إِنَّ الَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَ عَمِلُواْ الصَّالِحَاتِ أُوْلَئِكَ هُمْ خَيْرُ الْبَرِيَّةِ»  :

“O Ali. His words “ Indeed, those who have faith and do righteous deeds, it is they who are the best of creatures”

أنتَ وشيعَتُكَ .

refer to you and your Shiah.

تَرِدُ عَلَيَّ أنتَ وشيعَتُكَ

You will join me, you and your partisans,

راضينَ مَرضِيّينَ .

well-pleased and well-pleasing.”

ح ـ خَصمُ الكُفّارِ

The Disputant against the Disbelievers

561. صحيح البخاري عن أبي مجلَز عن قيس بن عباد عن الإمام عليّ عليه السلام:

561. Sahih al-Bukhari, reporting from Abi Majlaz, from Qays ibn Ubad, from Imam Ali, who said:

 أنَا أوَّلُ مَن يَجثو بَينَ يَدَيِ الرَّحمنِ لِلخُصومَةِ يَومَ القِيامَةِ .

 “I will be the first to kneel, before the Beneficent, for disputantion on the Day of Judgment.”

قالَ قَيسٌ : وفيهِم نَزَلَت :  

Qays said: His words:

«هَـذَانِ خَصْمَانِ اخْتَصَمُواْ فِى رَبِّهِمْ»  

“These are two disputants who have disputed concerning their Lord” Quran, 22:19

قالَ : هُمُ الَّذينَ بارَزوا يَومَ بَدرٍ :

were revealed concerning those who went forth in the field on the Day of Badr,

عَلِيٌّ وحَمزَةُ وعُبَيدَةُ ، وشَيبَةُ بنُ رَبيعَةَ وعُتبَةُ بنُ رَبيعَةَ وَالوَليدُ بنُ عُتبَةَ .

Ali, Hamza, Ubayda, Shayba ibn Rabia, Utbah ibn Rabia and al-Walid ibn Utbah.”

ط ـ الهادي

The Guide

562. تاريخ دمشق عن ابن عبّاس :

562. Tarikh Dimashq, reporting from Ibn Abbas, who said:

لَمّا نَزَلَت :  

“When [the following verse] was revealed:

«إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُنذِرٌ وَ لِكُلِّ قَوْمٍ هَادٍ»

“You are only a warner, and there is a guide for every people”, Quran, 13:7

 قالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه و آله :

the Prophet (SA) said:

أنَا المُنذِرُ ، وعَلِيٌّ الهادي ،

‘I am the warner and Ali is the guide.

بِكَ يا عَلِيُّ يَهتَدِي المُهتَدونَ .

Through you, O Ali, will people be guided.’ ”

ي ـ الوَلِيُّ المُتَصَدِّقُ فِي الرُّكوعِ

The Giver of Charity While Bowing

563. المعجم الأوسط عن عمّار بن ياسر :

563. Al-Mujam al-Awsat, reporting from Ammar ibn Yasir, who said:

وَقَفَ عَلى عَلِيِّ بنِ أبي طالِبٍ سائِلٌ وهُوَ راكِعٌ في تَطَوُّعٍ ،

“A beggar stood by Ali ibn Abi Talib while he was bowing preforming a supererogatory prayer,

فَنَزَعَ خاتَمَهُ فَأَعطاهُ السّائِلَ ،

so he took off his ring and gave it to the beggar.

فَأَتى رَسولَ اللّهِ صلى الله عليه و آله فَأَعلَمَهُ ذلِكَ ،

When he came to the Messenger of God (SA) and informed him about it,

فَنَزَلَت عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه و آله هذِهِ الآيَةُ :  

this verse was revealed on the Prophet (SA):

«إِنَّمَا وَلِيُّكُمُ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ وَالَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ الَّذِينَ يُقِيمُونَ الصَّلَوةَ وَيُؤْتُونَ الزَّكَوةَ وَهُمْ رَ كِعُونَ»

“Your guardian is only God, His Messenger, and the believers who maintain the prayer and give the zakat while bowing down”. Quran, 5:55.

 فَقَرَأَها رَسولُ اللّهِ صلى الله عليه و آله ثُمَّ قالَ :

The Messenger of God (SA) recited it and then said:

مَن كُنتُ مَولاهُ فَعَلِيٌّ مَولاهُ ،

whoever has adopted me as his master, Ali is his master.

اللّهُمَّ والِ مَن والاهُ ،

O God, befriend him who befriends him

وعادِ مَن عاداهُ .

and show enmity to him who shows enmity to him.”

ك ـ الَّذي يَشري نَفسَهُ ابتِغاءَ مَرضاةِ اللّهِ

He Who Sacrifices Himself for God’s Good Pleasure

564. الإمام زين العابدين عليه السلامـ فِي الآيَةِ الكَريمَةِ ـ:

564. Imam Zayn al-Abidin said, concerning this holy verse:

نَزَلَت في عَلِيٍّ عليه السلام حينَ باتَ عَلى فِراشِ رَسولِ اللّهِ صلى الله عليه و آله .

 “It was revealed concerning Ali (AS) when he slept on the bed of the Messenger of God.”

ل ـ الَّذي يُنفِقُ مالَهُ بِاللَّيلِ وَالنَّهارِ سِرّا وعَلانِيَةً

He Who Gives His Wealth by Night and Day‚ Secretly and Openly

565. المعجم الكبير عن ابن عبّاسـ في قَولِ اللّهِ عَزَّ وجَلَّ : 

565. Al-Mujam al-Kabir, reporting from Ibn Abbas that he said concerning God’s words

«الَّذِينَ يُنفِقُونَ أَمْوَ لَهُم بِالَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ سِرًّا وَعَلَانِيَةً»  ـ:

“Those who give their wealth by night and day, secretly and openly”: Quran, 2:274.

نَزَلَت في عَلِيِّ بنِ أبي طالِبٍ ، كانَت عِندَهُ أربَعَةُ دَراهِمَ ،

“These were revealed concerning Ali ibn Abi Talib who had four Dirhams,

فَأَنفَقَ بِاللَّيلِ واحِدا ، وبِالنَّهارِ واحِدا ،

so he gave one by night, one by day,

وفِي السِّرِّ واحِدا ، وفِي العَلانِيَةِ واحِدا .

one secretly and one openly.”

م ـ المُؤَذِّنُ بَينَ أصحابِ الجَنَّةِ وَالنّارِ

The Caller between the Inhabitants of Heaven and Hell

566. الكافي عن أحمد بن عمر الحلّال:

566. Al-Kafi, reporting from Ahmad ibn Umar al-Hallal, who said:

 سَأَلتُ أبَا الحَسَنِ عليه السلام عَن قَولِهِ تَعالى :  

“I asked Abu al-Hasan (AS) about God’s words:

«فَأَذَّنَ مُؤَذِّن بَيْنَهُمْ أَن لَّعْنَةُ اللَّهِ عَلَى الظَّــلِمِينَ»  ؟

“Then a caller will declare in their midst, ‘May God’s curse be on the wrongdoers”!’ Quran, 7:44.

قالَ عليه السلام :المُؤَذِّنُ أميرُالمُؤمِنينَ عليه السلام  .

He (AS) said: The caller is the Commander of the Faithful (AS).”

ن ـ وِلايَتُهُ كَمالُ الدّينِ

Loyalty to Him is the Perfection of Religion       

567. تاريخ دمشق عن أبي سعيد الخدري:

567. Tarikh Dimashq, reporting from Abu Said al-Khudari who said:

نَزَلَت هذِهِ الآيَةُ :  

“This verse:

«يَـأَيُّهَا الرَّسُولُ بَلِّغْ مَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ مِن رَّبِّكَ»  

“O Messenger! Communicate that which has been sent down to you from your Lord” Quran, 5:67.

عَلى رَسولِ اللّهِ صلى الله عليه و آله يَومَ غَديرِ خُمٍّ في عَلِيِّ بنِ أبي طالِبٍ .

was revealed on the Messenger of God on the day of Ghadir Khumm concerning Ali ibn Abi Talib.”
