531. الإرشاد عن الإمام عليّ عليه السلام :
531. Imam Ali (AS) said:
أتاكُم شَهرُ رَمَضانَ ،
“The month of Ramadan has come to you.
وهُوَ سَيِّدُ الشُّهورِ ،
It is the master of the months,
وأوَّلُ السَّنَةِ ،
and the beginning of the year.
وفيهِ تَدورُ رَحىَ السُّلطانِ ،
In it the mill of authority turns.
ألا وإنَّكُم حاجُّوا العامِ صَفّا واحِدا ،
Indeed, you will undertake the pilgrimage of this year in one rank.
وآيَةُ ذلِكَ أنّي لَستُ فيكُم .
The sign of that is that I will no longer be among you.”
فَكانَ أصحابُهُ يَقولونَ :
His companions would say:
إنَّهُ يَنعى إلَينا نَفسَهُ ،
“He is announcing his death to us.”
فَضُرِبَ عليه السلام في لَيلَةِ تِسعَ عَشَرَةَ ،
He (AS) was struck on the eve of the nineteenth
ومَضى في لَيلَةِ إحدى وعِشرينَ مِن ذلِكَ الشَّهرِ .
and passed away on the eve of the twenty first of that month.

532. علل الشرائع عن الأصبغ بن نباتة :
532. Ilal al-Sharai, reporting from Asbagh ibn Nubata, who said:
قُلتُ لِأَميرِ المُؤمِنينَ عليه السلام :
“I said to the Commander of the believers (AS):
ما مَنَعَكَ مِنَ الخِضابِ وقَدِ اختَضَبَ رَسولُ اللّهِ صلى الله عليه و آله ؟
What has prevented you from dyeing when the Messenger of God (SA) had dyed?’
قالَ : أنتَظِرُ أشقاها أن يَخضِبَ لِحيَتي مِن دَمِ رَأسي
He said: ‘I am awaiting the most wretched of them to dye my beard from the blood of my head
بَعدَ عَهدٍ مَعهودٍ
according to a firm covenant
أخبَرَني بِهِ حَبيبي رَسولُ اللّهِ صلى الله عليه و آله .
of which my beloved the Messenger of God (SA) had informed me.’ ”

533. تاريخ اليعقوبي:
533. Tarikh al-Yaqubi relates:
قَدِمَ عَبدُ الرَّحمنِ بنُ مُلجَمٍ المُرادِيُّ الكوفَةَ لِعَشرٍ بَقينَ مِن شَعبانَ سَنَةَ (40ه ) ،
“ ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Muljam al-Muradi arrived at Kufah at the last ten days of the month of Sha‘ban, (40 AH).
فَلَمّا بَلَغَ عَلِيّا قُدومُهُ قالَ :
When Ali was informed of his arrival, he said:
وقَد وافى ؟
‘Indeed, has he come?
أما إنَّهُ ما بَقِيَ عَلَيَّ غَيرُهُ ،
Nothing is left except his affair.
هذا أوانُهُ .
This is its time.’
فَنَزَلَ عَلَى الأَشعَثِ بنِ قَيسٍ الكِندِيِّ ،
He resided at al-Ashath ibn Qays al-Kindi,
فَأَقامَ عِندَهُ شَهرا يَستَحِدُّ سَيفَهُ .
stayed with him for a month, sharpening his sword.”
