527. Imam Ali (AS) said:
“When God sent down His word:
‘Alif Lam Mim. Do the people suppose that they will be let off because they say,“ We have faith,” and they will not be tested?’, Quran, 29:1-2.
I came to know that such test (of dissension) would not befall us so long as the Messenger of God (SA) is among us.
So I said, ‘O Messenger of God, what is this test of which God has informed you?’
He replied, ‘O Ali, my community will be tested after me.’
I said: ‘O Messenger of God, did you not say to me, on the day of Uhud, when a number of the Muslims were martyred,
and I was not among them,
so it was too hard for me,
did you not say to me,
‘Rejoice!
For martyrdom is behind you’?
He them said to me:
‘That is indeed true.
So, thus how will your patience be?
I said: ‘O Messenger of God, this is not a place of patience,
or rather, it is a place of rejoice and gratitude.”

528. Al-Mujam al-Kabir, reporting from Jabir, who said:
“The Messenger of God (SA) said to Ali (AS):
‘ Indeed, you are a person who will be appointed as Caliph
and you will be killed.
This will be dyed from that (that is his beard from [the blood of] his head).”

“I saw the Prophet (SA) hold Ali,
kissed him
and said:
‘May may father be a ransom for the lonely martyr!
May my father be a ransom for the lonely martyr.’ ”

530. Imam Ali (AS) said:
“The Messenger of God (SA) said:
‘O Ali, do you know who is the most wretched of the former ones?’
I said: ‘God and His Messenger best know.’
He said: ‘The harmstringer of the camel [of Thamud].’
He said: ‘Do you know who is more wicked)
and once he said: the most wretched of the latter ones?’
I said: ‘God and His Messenger best know.’
He said: ‘Your killer.’ ”
