1411 - الاِغتِرارُ بِاللَّهِ‏

1411. DELUDING ONESELF ABOUT ALLAH

(يا أَيُّها الْإِنْسانُ ما غَرَّكَ بِرَبِّكَ الْكَرِيمِ * الَّذِي خَلَقَكَ فَسَوَّاكَ فَعَدَلَكَ * فِي أَيِّ صُورَةٍ ما شاءَ رَكَّبَكَ) .¹

“O man! What has deceived you about your generous Lord, Who created you and proportioned you, and gave you an upright nature, and composed you in any form that He wished?”²

4756.رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : يابنَ مَسعودٍ ، لا تَغتَرَّنَّ بِاللَّهِ ، ولا تَغتَرَّنَّ بصَلاحِكَ وعِلمِكَ وعَمَلِكَ وبِرِّكَ وعبادَتِكَ .³

4756.The Prophet (SAWA) said, ‘O Ibn Masud, do not be under any delusion about Allah, and do not be under any delusion with respect to your righteousness, your knowledge, your deeds, your goodness or your worship.’⁴

4757.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : إنّ مِن العِصمَةِ ألّا تَغتَرُّوا بِاللَّهِ .⁵

4757.Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘Verily part of keeping oneself immune from sins is that you do not delude yourself about Allah.’⁶

4758.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : إنَّ مِنَ الغِرَّةِ باللَّهِ أن يُصِرَّ العَبدُ علَى المَعصيَةِ ويَتَمَنّى‏ علَى اللَّهِ المَغفِرَةَ .⁷

4758.Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘Verily being under a delusion about Allah is when the servant persists in committing acts of disobedience and expects Allah to forgive him.’⁸

4759.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : كم مِن مُستَدرَجٍ بالإحسانِ إلَيهِ ، ومَغرورٍ بِالسَّترِ علَيهِ ، ومَفتونٍ بِحُسنِ القَولِ فيهِ ! .⁹

4759.Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘Many a person approaches Allah’s punishment as a result of His good favour towards him in being ungrateful, and many a person is deluded as a result of Allah’s concealment of his sins, and many a person is captivated by the good things said about him!’¹⁰

298. DELUSION

1410 - خَطَرُ الغُرورِ وصِفَةُ المَغرُورِ

1410. THE DANGER OF DELUSION AND THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE DELUDED

4750.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : طُوبى‏ لِمَن لَم تَقتُلْهُ قاتِلاتُ الغُرورِ .¹

4750.Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘Blessed be the one whom the assassins of delusion have not killed.’²

4751.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : سُكرُ الغَفلَةِ والغُرورِ أبعَدُ إفاقَةً مِن سُكرِ الخُمُورِ .³

4751.Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘The intoxication of heedlessness and delusion are harder to resume consciousness from than the intoxication of wines.’⁴

4752.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : مَن غَرَّهُ السَّرابُ تَقَطَّعَت بهِ الأسبابُ .⁵

4752.Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘He who is deluded by a mirage [the world] will lose all means [of happiness].’⁶

4753.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : بَينَكُم وبينَ المَوعِظَةِ حِجابٌ مِن الغِرَّةِ .⁷

4753.Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘Between you and the moral exhortation is a veil of inadvertency.’⁸

4754.الإمامُ زينُ العابدينَ عليه السلام : رُبَّ مَغرورٍ مَفتونٍ يُصبِحُ لاهِياً ضاحِكاً يَأكُلُ ويَشرَبُ ، وهو لا يَدرِي لَعلَّهُ قد سَبَقَت لَهُ مِنَ اللَّهِ سَخَطَةٌ يَصلى‏ بها نارَ جَهَنَّمَ .⁹

4754. Imam Zayn al-Abidin (AS) said, ‘Many a deluded and captivated man [by his own desires] awakes in the morning oblivious and joyful, eating and drinking, unaware that perhaps Allah’s wrath has already befallen him for something and as a result of which he will enter the Fire of Hell.’¹⁰

4755.الإمامُ الصّادقُ عليه السلام : مَن وَثِقَ بثلاثَةٍ كانَ مَغروراً : مَن صَدَّقَ بما لا يكونُ ، ورَكَنَ إلى‏ مَن لا يَثِقُ بهِ ، وطَمِعَ فيما لا يَملِكُ .¹¹

4755.Imam al-Sadiq (AS) said, ‘He who places his trust in three things is indeed deluded: He who believes in the impossible, relies on someone who cannot be trusted, and avidly desires that which he does not possess.’¹²
