204 - احتِرامُ الذِّمَمِ
204. Respecting Covenants of Protection
627.رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : يُجِيرُ على اُمَّتي أدْناهُم .1
627.The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'It is up to my community to protect those who are under them [i.e. non-Muslims living in Muslim lands].' 23
628.رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : المسلِمونَ إخْوةٌ ، تَتَكافَأُ دِماؤهُم ، يَسْعى بذِمَّتهِم أدْناهُم ، وهُم يَدٌ على مَن سِواهُم .4
628.The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'The Muslims are brothers, their blood is co-equal, the weakest among them can grant protection, and they are like one hand [united] against their enemy.' 5

2.This refers to the free non-Muslim subjects living in Muslim lands who, in return for paying the capital tax, enjoyed protection and safety therein (ed.)
