Imam Hussein’s (AS) Uprising Based on Quranic Teachings

A senior Lebanese Sunni scholar underlined that the uprising of Imam Hussein (AS) against the tyranny of Yazid was based on the teachings of the Quran and Islam.

Sheikh Ghazi Hunaina, a senior cleric in the city of Sidon who heads the al-Nahdha political current, said Imam Hussein’s (AS) uprising was a public invitation for all Islamic schools of thought to stand up against injustice and oppression.

It was aimed at upholding the truth and justice based on the teachings of the Holy Quran and the holy prophet (PBUH), he added.

Sheikh Hunaina said the Ashura uprising has many lessons for everyone, including that fact that one should strive to uphold the truth with steadfast faith in God.

He said the Muslim Ummah should act upon the lessons of this uprising by standing up to the world arrogance and countering their plots against Muslims.

The cleric referred to the US and Zionist regime as the Yazids of the time that are hatching plots against Muslims via different means, including by support for Takfiri terrorist groups like Daesh and al-Nusra Front.

He further underlined that Imam Hussein (AS) does not belong to a special group or sect but is a character who guides everyone to the true path.

He noted that Sunni Muslims, too, take part in mourning ceremonies for the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS).

Every year during Muharram, the first month in the lunar Hijri calendar, Shia Muslims and many others around the world hold ceremonies to mourn the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS) and his faithful companions on the day of Ashura.

They were martyred by the forces of Yazid in the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD.
