​Jihad

The one who truly wages jihad is the one who combats his self for the sake of Allah.

رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله :  مَن ماتَ ولَم يَغْزُ ، ولَم يُحدِّثْ بهِ‏نَفسَهُ ، ماتَ على‏ شُعْبَةٍ مِن نِفاقٍ . صحيح مسلم : 3 / 1517 / 158 .

 The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'Whoever dies, having neither waged a campaign nor having intended to do so, dies on a branch of hypocrisy [in his heart].' Sahih Muslim, v. 3, p. 1517, no. 1910

رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله :  ما أعْمالُ العِبادِ كُلِّهِم عِندالمُجاهِدينَ في سبيلِ اللَّهِ إلّا كَمِثْلِ خُطّافٍ أخَذَ بمِنْقارِهِ مِن ماءِ البَحرِ . كنز العمّال : 10680 .

 The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'The deeds of all the worshippers when compared to those who wage jihad in the way of Allah is as a gulp of sea-water that a swallow takes into his beak.' Kanz al-Ummal, no. 1068

رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله :  السُّيوفُ مَفاتِيحُ الجَنّةِ . مستدرك الوسائل : 11 / 13 / 12293 .

 The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'Swords are the keys to Paradise.' Mustadrak al-Wasa'il, v. 11, p. 13, no. 12293

رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله :  مَن بَلّغَ رسالةَ غازٍ كانَ كَمَنْ أعْتقَ‏رَقَبةً، وهُو شَريكُهُ في بابِ «ثوابِ» غَزْوَتِهِ. وسائل الشيعة : 11 / 14 / 2 .

 The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'Whoever carries a message on behalf of a fighter during war is like one who frees a slave, and he partakes in the reward of the one who actually fought.' Wasa'il al-Shia, v. 11. p. 14, no. 2

رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله :  مَن جَهّزَ غازياً بسِلْكٍ أو إبْرَةٍ غَفَرَاللَّهُ لَهُ ما تَقدَّمَ من ذَنبهِ وما تَأخّرَ . مستدرك الوسائل : 11 / 24 / 12333 .

 The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'Whoever equips a warrior, even with a needle or thread, Allah forgives his past and future sins.' Mustadrak al-Wasa'il, v. 11, p. 24, no. 12333

رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله :  اتَّقوا أذَى المُجاهِدينَ في سبيلِ اللَّهِ ، فإنَّ اللَّهَ يَغْضَبُ لَهُم كَما يَغْضَبُ للرُّسُلِ ، ويَسْتَجيبُ لَهُم كَما يَسْتَجيبُ لَهُم . كنز العمّال : 10664 .

 The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'Be wary of harming those who fight in the way of Allah, for Allah is angered for their sake just as He is for the sake of the Prophet (SAWA), and He answers their prayers just as He answers the prayers of the Prophet (SAWA).' Kanz al-Ummal, no. 10664

رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله :  صَلاةُ الرّجُلِ مُتَقَلِّداً بسَيفِهِ تَفْضُلُ‏علىْ صَلاتِهِ غَيرَ مُتَقَلِّدٍ بسَبعِمائةِ ضِعْفٍ . كنز العمّال : 10791 .

 The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'The prayer of one carrying his sword is seven hundred times better than praying without it.' Kanz al-Ummal,  no. 10791

رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله :  فمَن تَركَ الجِهادَ ألْبسَهُ اللَّهُ‏ذُلّاً في نفسِهِ، وفَقْراً في مَعيشَتِهِ، ومَحْقاً في دِينهِ. إنَّ اللَّهَ تباركَ وتعالى‏ أعَزَّ اُمّتي بسَنابِكِ خَيْلِها ومَراكِزِ رِماحِها . الأمالي للصدوق : 673 / 906 .

 The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'Allah covers with disgrace the one who abandons jihad, and subjects him to poverty, and deprivation in his religion. Verily Allah, blessed and most High, has honoured my community by the solid hooves of its cavalry, and the tips of its lances.' Amali al-Saduq, p. 462, no. 8

رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله :  كُلُّ عَملٍ مُنْقَطِعٌ عَن صاحبِهِ إذاماتَ إلّا المُرابِطَ في سبيلِ اللَّهِ ، فإنَّهُ يُنْمى‏ لَهُ عَملُهُ ويُجْرى‏ علَيهِ رِزْقُهُ إلى‏ يَومِ القِيامَةِ . كنز العمّال : 10611 .

 The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'Every action will be separated from its owner upon death, except the one who maintained his post for the sake of Allah, since it will be increased and rewarded to him until the Day of Resurrection.' Kanz al-Ummal,  no. 10611

رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله :  رِباطُ يَومٍ في سبيلِ اللَّهِ خَيرٌ مِن الدُّنيا وما عَلَيها . كنز العمّال : 10508 .

 The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'Keeping your posts for a single day is better than the whole world and all that it contains.' Kanz al-Ummal, no. 10508

رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله :  حَرَسُ لَيلةٍ في سبيلِ اللَّهِ عزّوجلّ أفْضَلُ مِن ألفِ لَيلةٍ يُقامُ لَيلُها ويُصامُ نَهارُها . كنز العمّال : 10730 .

 The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'Standing guard for a single night for the sake of Allah is better than a thousand nights spent in worship followed by fasting during the day.' Kanz al-Ummal,  no. 10730

رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله :  عَيْنانِ لا تَمَسُّهُما النّارُ : عَينٌ بَكَتْ مِن خَشْيَةِ اللَّهِ ، وعَينٌ باتَتْ تَحْرُسُ في سبيلِ اللَّهِ . سنن الترمذي : 4 / 175 / 1639 .

 The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'The eyes of two categories of people will never touch the fire: the one who cried out of fear of Allah, and the one who spent the night awake standing guard for the sake of Allah.' Sunan al-Tirmidhi, no. 1639

رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله :  المُجاهِدُ مَن جَاهَدَ نَفْسَهُ في اللَّهِ . كنز العمّال : 11261 ؛ تنبيه الخواطر : 1 / 96 .

 The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'The one who truly wages jihad is the one who combats his self for the sake of Allah.' Kanz al-Ummal, no. 11261

رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله :  جاهِدوا أنفسَكُم على‏ شَهَواتِكُم تَحِلَّ قلوبَكُم الحِكمَةُ . تنبيه الخواطر : 2 / 122 .

 The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'Struggle against the desires of your self and wisdom will enter your hearts.' Tanbih al-Khawatir, v. 2, p. 122

رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله :  بالمُجاهَدَةِ يُغلَبُ سُوءُ العادَةِ . تنبيه الخواطر : 2 / 119 .

 The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'Through constant self-struggle are bad habits overcome.' Tanbih al-Khawatir, v. 2, p. 119

رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله :  جاهِدوا أنفسَكُم بقِلَّةِ الطَّعامِ والشَّرابِ ، تُظِلَّكُمُ المَلائكةُ ويَفِرَّ عَنكُمُ الشَّيطانُ . تنبيه الخواطر : 2 / 122 .

 The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'Struggle against your selves through reducing food and drink, and the angels will protect you and Satan will flee from you.' Tanbih al-Khawatir, v. 2, p. 122

رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله :  أفْضَلُ الجِهادِ مَن أصْبَحَ لا يَهُمُّ بظُلْمِ أحدٍ . المحاسن : 1 / 456 / 1053 .

 The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'The best jihad is performed by one who awakes in the morning with no intention to wrong anyone.' al-Mahasin, v. 1, p. 456, no. 1053

رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله :  أشَدُّ النّاسِ اجْتِهاداً مَن تَرَكَ الذُّنوبَ . الأمالي للصدوق : 73 / 41 .

 The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'The most diligent of people is he who abandons sins.' Amali al-Saduq, p. 28, no. 4
