Int'l Conference on Translating Quran to Be Held in Morocco

The fifth international conference on translating the meanings of the Holy Quran is going to be held on Feb 20-21, 2018 in Morocco.

The Knowledge Integration and Translation Laboratory at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Marrakech, The Department of Arabic Language and Translation at the University of Leuven, Belgium, and Al-Kindy Centre for Translation and Training are the organizers of the two-day conference.

Jewish and Christian Frameworks in the Translations of the Meanings of the Holy Quran, The Influence of Orientalism on the Translation of the Holy Quran and Linguistic Studies are 3 main themes of the conference. Different subjects will be discussed under each category.

The effect of the translator’s framework on the translation of the holy Quranic stories and on the translation of Abrahamic religions’ shared stories, the influence of the ''Isra'iliyat'' on the conceptual framework of the Holy Quran translator, the translator’s orientalist framework and its effect on translating the Holy Quran, the ideological framework and its implications for modern translations of the Holy Quran, the orientalist’s approach in dealing with what is considered non-Arabic words in the holy Quran and the impact of the translator’s framework on translating Qur'anic terms, proper names in the Quran and opening letters in the beginning of some Surahs and homonyms and synonyms in the holy Quran are among the subjects to be discussed in the conference.

The deadline for abstract and participation form is August 30, 2017 and the jury will respond to the abstracts as soon as they are received.
