​Miserliness

The most miserly person is he who refuses to give what Allah has made obligatory [i.e. the alms-tax].

رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله :  أقلُّ النّاسِ راحةً البخيلُ . بحار الأنوار : 73 / 300 / 2 .

 The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'The least comfortable one among people is the miser.' Bihar al-Anwar, v. 73, p. 300, no. 2

رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله :  البخيلُ حقّاً مَن ذُكِرْتُ عِندَهُ فَلَم يُصَلِّ علَيَّ . بحار الأنوار : 73 / 306 / 28 .

 The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'The real miser is he before whom my name is mentioned and he does not say 'peace be upon him'.' Bihar al-Anwar, v. 73, p. 306, no. 28

رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله :  إنّما البَخيلُ حَقُّ البَخيلِ الّذي يَمنعُ الزَّكاةَ المَفروضةَ في مالِهِ ، ويَمنعُ البائِنَةَ في قومِهِ ، وهُو فيما سِوى‏ ذلكَ يُبَذِّرُ . معاني الأخبار : 245 / 4 .

 The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'The real miser is the one who refuses to pay the mandatory alms-tax from his wealth, and refuses to spend on the necessities of his people, yet he squanders it on other things.' Maani al-Akhbar, p. 245, no. 4

رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله :  إنّ أبخَلَ النّاسِ مَن بَخِلَ بالسَّلامِ . بحار الأنوار : 76 / 4 / 11 .

 The Prophet (SAWA) said, ' Verily the most miserly person is he who is miserly with his greeting [i.e. he does not greet others].' Bihar al-Anwar, v. 76, p. 4, no. 11
