Imam al-Baqir (AS) Words Pt.4

There is no interceder for a woman more efficient with her Lord than the content of her spouse.

 الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : وَجَدْنا في كتابِ رسولِ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : إذا ظَهَرَ الزِّنا مِن بَعدِي كَثُرَ مَوتُ الفَجْأةِ . الكافي : 2 / 374 / 2 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'We found written in the book of the Prophet (SAWA), 'If fornication prevails after my death, incidences of sudden death will increase.' al-Kafi, v. 2, p. 374, no. 2

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : كانَ فيما ناجَى اللَّهُ به موسى‏ عليه السلام : ... ما تَزَيَّنَ لي المُتَزَيِّنُونَ بمِثلِ الزُّهدِ في الدنيا عَمّا بِهِمُ الغِنى‏ عنه . بحار الأنوار : 13 / 349 / 37 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'In one of His conversations with Prophet Moses (AS), Allah told him the following, '...those who seek to adorn themselves [for Me] have no better apparel than abstention from the worldly pleasures that they find indispensable.' Bihar al-Anwar, v. 13, p. 349, no. 37

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : أكثِرْ ذِكرَ المَوتِ ، فإنّهُ لَم ‏يُكثِرْ إنسانٌ ذِكرَ المَوتِ إلّا زَهِدَ في الدنيا . بحار الأنوار : 73 / 64 / 31 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Remember death frequently, for no sooner does man increase his remembrance of death than he begins to renounce this world's life.' Bihar al-Anwar, v. 73, p. 64, no. 31

 الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : لا شَفيعَ للمرأةِ أنجَحُ عِند رَبِّها مِن رِضا زَوجِها . بحارالأنوار : 103 / 256 / 1 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'There is no interceder for a woman more efficient with her Lord than the content of her spouse.' Bihar al-Anwar, v. 103, p. 256, no. 1

 الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : تَزاوَرُوا في بيوتِكُم فإنّ ذلكَ حَياةٌ لِأمرِنا ، رَحِمَ اللَّهُ عَبداً أحيا أمرَنا . بحار الأنوار : 2 / 144 / 6 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Pay visits to each other in your homes for verily that is a reviving of our teachings, and Allah has mercy on a servant who revives our teachings.' Bihar al-Anwar, v. 2, p. 144, no. 6

 الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : مَن سَألَ بظَهرِ غِنىً لَقِيَ اللَّهَ مَخْموشاً وَجهُهُ يَومَ القِيامَةِ . بحار الأنوار : 96 / 155 / 26 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'He who asks others in spite of being well-off will meet Allah with a scarred face on the Day of Resurrection.' Bihar al-Anwar, p. 155, no. 26

 الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : لو يَعلَمُ السائلُ ما في المَسألَةِ ما سَألَ أحَدٌ أحَداً، ولَو يَعلَمُ المَسؤولُ ما في المَنعِ ما مَنَعَ أحَدٌ أحَداً . تحف العقول : 300 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'If the beggar was to know the enormity of begging, no one would ever ask anything of another, and if the one asked was to know the enormity of denying someone, no one would ever deny another again.' Tuhaf al-Uqul, no. 200

 الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : كانَ لأبِي عليه السلام في مَوضِعِ سُجودِهِ آثارٌ ناتِيةٌ ، وكانَ يَقطَعُها في السَّنَةِ مَرَّتَينِ ، في كُلِّ مَرّةٍ خَمسَ ثَفِناتٍ فَسُمِّيَ ذا الثَّفِناتِ لذلكَ . علل الشرائع : 233 / 1 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'My father (AS) used to have protruding marks from prostration on his forehead, which he used to cut twice a year, and every time he would do so, he would scrape off five calluses, and came to be nicknamed 'the one with calluses.' Ilal al-Shara'i , p. 233, no. 1

 الإمامُ الباقرُ أو الإمامُ الصّادقُ عليهما السلام : لا يُقطَعُ إلّا مَن نَقَبَ بَيتاً أو كَسَرَ قُفلاً . وسائل الشيعة : 18 / 510 / 5 .

 Imam al-Baqir or Imam al-Sadiq (AS) said, 'Only the thief who breaks into a house or breaks a lock is liable to have his hand cut.' Wasa'il al-Shia, v. 18, p. 510, no. 5

 الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : مَن سَقى‏ ظَمآناً ماءً سَقاهُ اللَّهُ مِنَ الرَّحيقِ المَختومِ . بحار الأنوار : 96 / 172 / 8 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, ''Whoever gives a drink of water to a thirsty person, Allah will quench him from the pure sealed wine [of Paradise].' Bihar al-Anwar, v. 96, p. 172, no. 8

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : ما أسكَرَ كَثيرُهُ فَقَلِيلُهُ حَرامٌ . بحار الأنوار : 79 / 131 / 20 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Whatever substance intoxicates when consumed in large amounts is prohibited even in small amounts.' Bihar al-Anwar, v. 79, p. 131, no. 20

 الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : مِن شَقاءِ العَيشِ ضِيقُ المَنزِلِ . الكافي : 6 / 526 / 6 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'A misfortunate way of life entails living in a cramped house.' al-Kafi, v. 6, p. 526, no. 6

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام: بُنِيَ الإسلامُ على‏ خَمسَ دَعائمَ : إقامِ الصَّلاةِ ، وإيتاءِ الزَّكاةِ ، وصَومِ شَهرِ رَمَضانَ ، وحَجِّ البَيتِ الحَرامِ ، والوَلايَةِ لَنا أهلَ البَيتِ . الأمالي للمفيد : 353 / 4 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Islam has been founded on five pillars: the establishment of prayer, the giving of the alms-tax, the fast of the month of Ramadan, the pilgrimage to the Sanctified House, and [the acknowledgment of] our guardianship, the Ahl al-bayt.' Amali al-Mufid, p. 353, no. 4

 الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : إنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ إطعامَ الطَّعامِ ، وإفشاءَ السَّلامِ . المحاسن : 2 / 143 / 1371 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Verily Allah loves the feeding of food [to others] and the spreading of peace [greetings].' al-Mahasin, v. 2, p. 143, no. 1371

 الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : لا تُسَلِّمُوا على‏ مَوائدِ شُرّابِ الخَمرِ ، ولا على‏ صاحِبِ الشَّطرَنجِ والنَّردِ ، ولا على‏ المُخَنَّثِ ، ولا على‏ الشاعِرِ الذي يَقذِفُ المُحصَناتِ ، ولا على‏ المُصَلِّي ؛ وذلكَ لأنَّ المُصَلِّيَ لايَستَطيعُ أن يَرُدَّ السلامَ ، لأنَّ التَّسليمَ مِنَ المُسَلِّمِ تَطَوُّعٌ والرَّدَّ علَيهِ فَريضَةٌ ، ولا على‏ آكِلِ الرِّبا ، ولا على‏ رَجُلٍ جالِسٍ على‏ غائطٍ ، ولا على الذي في الحَمّامِ ، ولا على‏ الفاسِقِ المُعلِنِ بِفِسقِهِ . بحار الأنوار : 76 / 9 / 35 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Do not extend the greeting of peace ....... and to to those who drink alcohol, nor to chess and dice players, nor to an effeminate person, nor to a poet who slanders chaste women of fornication, and nor to someone performing his prayer - and that is because the person praying cannot return the greeting, for verily the initiation of the greeting on the part of the greeter is voluntary whereas returning the greeting is obligatory. Nor [greet] the usurer, nor someone who is sitting in the lavatory, nor someone taking a bath, and nor an outrightly corrupt person who openly commits immoral acts.' Bihar al-Anwar, p. 9, no. 35

 الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : أحَقُّ مَن خَلَقَ اللَّهُ بِالتَّسليمِ لِما قَضَى اللَّهُ ، مَن عَرَفَ اللَّهَ . بحار الأنوار : 71 / 153 / 63 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Out of all that Allah has created, the worthiest person of submission to Allah's decree is he who knows Allah.' Bihar al-Anwar, v. 71, p. 153, no. 63

 الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : كانَ رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله يُغَيِّرُ الأسماءَ القَبيحَةَ في الرِّجالِ والبُلدانِ . بحار الأنوار : 104 / 127 / 4 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) narrated, 'The Prophet (SAWA) used to change ugly names of people and places [to good names].' Bihar al-Anwar, v. 104, p. 127, no. 4

 الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام: إنَّ اسمَ اللَّهِ الأعظَمَ على‏ ثلاثةٍ وسَبعينَ حَرفاً ، وإنّما كانَ عندَ آصَفَ مِنها حَرفٌ واحِدٌ فَتَكَلَّمَ بهِ فَخَسَفَ بِالأرضِ ما بَينَهُ وبينَ سَرِيرِ بِلقِيسَ حتّى‏ تَناوَلَ السَّرِيرَ بِيَدِهِ ، ثُمّ عادَتِ الأرضُ كما كانَت أسرَعَ مِن طَرفَةِ العَينِ ، ونحنُ عِندَنا مِنَ الاسمِ الأعظَمِ اثنانِ وسَبعونَ حَرفاً ، وحَرفٌ عِندَ اللَّهِ تَبارَكَ وتعالى‏ استَأثَرَ بهِ في عِلمِ الغَيبِ عِندَهُ ، ولا حَولَ ولا قُوَّةَ إلّا بِاللَّهِ العَلِيِّ العظيمِ . بحار الأنوار : 14 / 113 / 5 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Verily Allah's greatest Name is composed of seventy-three letters, of which Asaf [b. Barkhiyya] had but one, with the utterance of which he caused the earth between himself and Bilqis's throne to sink until he got hold of the throne, and after which [he caused] the earth to return to its former state faster than the blink of an eye. And we [the Ahl al-bayt] have seventy-two letters from the greatest Name, and Allah, Blessed and most High, has exclusive possession of one letter of it with Him in His knowledge of the Unseen.' Bihar al-Anwar, v. 14, p. 113, no. 5

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : إيّاكَ والتَّسويفَ ؛ فإنّهُ بَحرٌ يَغرَقُ فيهِ الهَلْكى‏ . بحار الأنوار : 78 / 164 / 1 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Beware of procrastination for verily it is the sea in which losers drown.' Bihar al-Anwar, v. 78, p. 164, no. 1

 الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : شَرُّ بِقاعِ الأرضِ الأسواقُ ، وهُو مَيدانُ إبليسَ ، يَغدُو بِرايَتِهِ ، ويَضَعُ كُرسِيَّهُ ، ويَبُثُّ ذُرِّيَّتَهُ ، فَبَينَ مُطَفِّفٍ في قَفيزٍ ، أو طائشٍ في ميزانٍ ، أو سارِقٍ في ذِراعٍ ، أو كاذِبٍ في سِلعَتِهِ ، فيقولُ : علَيكُم بِرَجُلٍ ماتَ أبوهُ وأبُوكُم حَيٌّ ، فلا يَزالُ مع أوَّلِ مَن يَدخُلُ وآخِرِ مَن يَرجِعُ . بحار الأنوار : 84 / 11 / 87 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'The most evil of places on earth are the marketplaces, for it is Satan's domain where he unfurls his flag first in the morning, takes up his seat and gives free rein to his offspring, from a vendor niggardly with his measure, to one who is reckless with his scale, to one who thieves off metres [from cloth], or to one who lies about his wares - to all he says, 'Take advantage of this man whose father [Adam (AS)] has died whilst your own father [Iblis] is still alive.' And he continues to do this from the first one to enter therein to the last one to leave.' Bihar al-Anwar, v. 84, p. 11, no. 87

 الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : إنّ السِّواكَ في السَّحَرِ قَبلَ الوُضُوءِ مِنَ السُّنَّةِ . كتاب من لا يحضره الفقيه : 1 / 480 / 1390 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Verily brushing one's teeth at dawn before performing the ablution is part of recommended prophetic practice.' al-Faqih, v. 1, p. 480, no. 1390

 الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : لَو اُتِيتُ بِشابٍّ مِن شَبابِ الشِّيعَةِ لا يَتَفَقَّهُ (في الدِّينِ) لأََدَّبتُهُ . المحاسن : 1 / 357 / 760 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'If I was brought a young Shia man undevoted to learning [religious matters], I would discipline him.' al-Mahasin, v. 1, p. 357, no. 760

 الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : الوُقوفُ عِندَ الشُّبهَةِ خَيرٌ مِن الاِقتِحامِ في الهَلَكَةِ وتَركُكَ حديثاً لم تَروِه خيرٌ مِن رِوايَتِكَ حديثاً لَم تُحصِهِ . أعلام الدين : 301 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Stopping in the face of an obscure matter is better than plunging headlong into disaster.' Alam al-Din, p. 301

 الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : إنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّوجلَّ جَعَلَ لِلشَّرِّ أقفالاً وجَعَلَ مَفاتِيحَ تِلكَ الأقفالِ الشَّرابَ ، والكَذِبُ شَرٌّ مِنَ الشَّرابِ . بحار الأنوار : 72 / 236 / 3 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Verily Allah, Mighty and Exalted, created locks for all evils, and he made the keys to those locks to be alcohol; and lying is worse than alcohol.' Bihar al-Anwar, v. 72, p. 236, no. 3

 الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام - لَمّا سُئلَ عن أدنَى الشِّركِ - : مَن قالَ لِلنَّواةِ : إنَّها حَصاةٌ ، ولِلحَصاةِ : إنّها نَواةٌ ، ثُمّ دانَ بهِ . الكافي : 2 / 397 / 1 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) was once asked what the absolute minimum of polytheism was, to which he replied, 'It is to call fruit kernels stones and vice versa, and to believe them as such.' al-Kafi, p. 397, no. 1

 الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : تَحَرَّزْ مِن إبليسَ بالخَوفِ الصادِقِ . بحار الأنوار : 78 / 164 / 1 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Guard yourself against Iblis [Satan] with true dread.' Bihar al-Anwar, p. 164, no. 1

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام - في قولِهِ تعالى‏ : (والشُّعَراءُ يَتَّبِعُهُمُ الغاوُونَ) - : هل رَأيتَ شاعراً يَتَّبِعُهُ أحَدٌ ؟! إنّما هُم قَومٌ تَفَقَّهُوا لِغَيرِ الدِّينِ فَضَلُّوا وأضَلُّوا . معاني‏الأخبار : 385 / 19 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said with regards to Allah's verse in the Qur'an: "As for the poets...", 'Have you ever seen a poet being followed by anyone?! They are only people who have devoted themselves to works aside from religion, and hence have strayed and led others astray.' Maani al-Akhbar, p. 385, no. 19

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام - في قولِهِ تعالى‏ : (ولَسَوْفَ يُعْطِيكَ رَبُّكَ فَتَرْضى‏) - : الشَّفاعَةُ ، واللَّهِ الشَّفاعةُ ، واللَّهِ الشَّفاعَةُ . بحار الأنوار : 8 / 57 / 72 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said with regards to Allah's verse in the Qur'an [addressing the Prophet (SAWA)]: "Soon your Lord will give you [that with which] you will be pleased”, '(This is) intercession, by Allah it is intercession, by Allah it is intercession.' Bihar al-Anwar, v. 8, p. 57, no. 72

 بحار الأنوار عَن أبي العبّاسِ المكبرِ عَن الإمام الباقرِ عليه السلام - وقد قالَ لَهُ أبو أيمنَ : ياأباجعفرٍ، تَغُرُّونَ الناسَ وتَقولونَ : شَفاعَةُ محمّدٍ، شَفاعَةُ محمّدٍ ! فَغَضِبَ عليه السلام حتّى‏ تَرَبَّدَ وَجهُهُ - : وَيحَكَ يا أبا أيمَنَ ! أغَرَّكَ إن عَفَّ بَطْنُكَ وفَرجُكَ ؟! أما لَو قد رَأيتَ أفزاعَ القِيامَةِ لقدِ احتَجتَ إلى‏ شَفاعَةِ محمّدٍ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله ، وَيلَكَ فَهل يَشفَعُ إلّا لِمَن وَجَبَت لَهُ النارُ ؟! ثُمَّ قالَ : ما مِن أحَدٍ مِنَ الأوَّلِينَ والآخِرِينَ إلّا وهُو مُحتاجٌ إلى‏ شَفاعَةِ محمّدٍ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله يَومَ القِيامَةِ . بحار الأنوار : 8 / 38 / 16 .

man called Abu Ayman once came to Imam al-Baqir (AS) saying, 'O Abu Jafar, you delude people by saying, 'Muhammad's intercession [will help you], Muhammad's intercession!' At this, the Imam (AS) got so angry that his face was glowering, and said, 'Woe betide you Abu Ayman! If your belly and your private parts keep you away from sin, does that mean they delude you? You would only have to see the atrocities of the Day of Resurrection to need Muhammad (SAWA)'s intercession. Woe unto you! In any case, do you think that he will only intercede for those whose punishment in the Fire is obligatory?!' Then he continued, saying, 'Every single person, from the first to the last, will need the intercession of Muhammad (SAWA) on the Day of Resurrection.' Bihar al-Anwar, v. 8, p. 38, no. 16

  الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : يَشفَعُ الرَّجُلُ في القَبيلَةِ ، ويَشفَعُ الرَّجُلُ لِأهلِ البَيتِ ، ويَشفَعُ الرجُلُ لِلرَّجُلَينِ على‏ قَدرِ عَمَلِهِ ، فذلكَ المَقامُ المَحمودُ . بحار الأنوار : 8 / 43 / 41 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'A man intercedes on behalf of his tribe, or for his family, or even just for two other people, depending on the extent of his deeds, for that is the Glorious Station.' Bihar al-Anwar, p. 43, no. 41

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : إنّ أدنَى المؤمنينَ شَفاعَةً لَيَشفَعُ لِثلاثينَ إنساناً ، فَعِندَ ذلكَ يقولُ أهلُ النارِ : (فَما لَنا مِنْ شافِعِينَ* ولا صَديقٍ حَمِيمٍ)  . الكافي : 8 / 101 / 72 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, The believer who can intercede the least shall intercede for up to thirty people,at this time the dweller of the fire would say ' Now then we have none to intercede [for us] Nor a single friend to feel [ for us].'  al-Kafi, v. 8, p. 101, no.72

 الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : اِستَكثِرْ لِنفسِكَ مِنَ اللَّهِ قليلَ الرِّزقِ تَخَلُّصاً إلى الشُّكرِ . تحف العقول : 285 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, ‘Regard even a little sustenance from Allah as too much for yourself so that you can be thankful.’ Tuhaf al-Uqul, no. 285

 الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام: أصبَحَ إبراهيمُ عليه السلام فَرَأى‏ في لِحيَتِهِ شَيباً شَعرَةً بَيضاءَ ، فقالَ : الحَمدُ للَّهِ‏ِ رَبِّ العالَمينَ الذي بَلَّغَني هذَا المَبلَغَ ولَم أعصِ اللَّهَ طَرفَةَ عَينٍ . علل الشرائع : 104 / 2 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, ‘Prophet Abraham (AS) woke up one morning to find old age in the form of a white hair in his beard, and said, ‘Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds, Who has brought me to this ripe age in which I have never yet disobeyed Him for even the blink of an eye.’ Ilal al-Shara’i , p. 104, no. 2

 الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : سُئلَت اُمُّ سَلَمَةَ زَوجُ النبيِّ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله عن علِيّ بنِ أبي طالبٍ عليه السلام، فقالَت : سَمِعتُ رسولَ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله يقولُ : إنّ عليّاً وشِيعَتَهُ هُمُ الفائزونَ . الإرشاد : 1 / 41 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, ‘Umm Salama, the wife of the Prophet (SAWA), was once asked about [the status of] Ali b. Abu Talib (AS), to which she replied, ‘I have heard the Prophet (SAWA) say, ‘Verily Ali and his Shia are the victorious ones.’ al-Irshad. p. 41

  الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : ما شِيعَتُنا إلّا مَنِ اتَّقى‏ اللَّهَ وأطاعَهُ، وما كانوا يُعرَفُونَ إلّا بالتَّواضُعِ والتَّخَشُّعِ وأداءِ الأمانَةِ وكَثرَةِ ذِكرِ اللَّهِ . تحف العقول : 295 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, ‘Our Shia are none other than those who are consciously wary of their duty to Allah and obey Him. They are known solely for their humbleness, their humility, their returning promptly whatever is entrusted in their care and their abundant remembrance of Allah.’ Tuhaf al-Uqul, p. 295

  الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : شِيعَتُنا ثلاثةُ أصنافٍ : صِنفٌ يَأكُلُونَ الناسَ بنا ، وصِنفٌ كالزُّجاجِ يَنُمُ‏  ، وصِنفٌ كالذَّهَبِ الأحمَرِ كُلَّما اُدخِلَ النارَ ازدادَ جَودَةً . بحار الأنوار : 78 / 186 / 24 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, ‘Our Shia are of three types: one type dupe people in our name, one type are like glass which discloses everything that is inside it, and one type are like red gold, which the more it is brandished in the fire, the purer it becomes.’ Bihar al-Anwar, v. 78, p. 186, no. 24

الكافي عن عَمرو بنِ خالدٍ عَن الإمامِ الباقرِ عليه السلام : يا مَعشرَ الشِّيعَةِ - شِيعَةَ آلِ محمّدٍ - كُونُوا النُّمْرُقَةَ الوُسطى‏ ، يَرجِع إليكُمُ الغالي ، ويَلحَق بِكُمُ التّالي ، فقالَ لَهُ رجُلٌ مِن الأنصارِ يقالُ لَهُ سعدٌ : جُعِلتُ فِداكَ ، مَا الغالِي ؟ قالَ : قومٌ يَقولُونَ فينا ما لا نَقُولُهُ في أنفُسِنا ، فليسَ اُولئكَ مِنّا ولَسنا مِنهُم . قالَ : فَمَا التّالِي ، قالَ : المُرتادُ يُرِيدُ الخَيرَ ، يُبَلِّغُهُ الخَيرُ يُوجَرُ علَيهِ . الكافي : 2 / 75 / 6 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, ‘O community of Shia – the Shia of the household of Muhammad – be like the middle saddle-cushion, on which the extremist who has slid forward falls back, and with which the follower who is yet to come catches up.’ Upon hearing this, a man called Sad from among the ansar asked him, ‘May I be your ransom, who is an extremist?’ He replied, ‘They are a group of people who say such things about us that we do not say about ourselves. Neither are these people from among us, nor do we associate ourselves with them.’ Then the man asked, ‘Who is the follower that is yet to come?’ He replied, ‘The one who is searching for good and wants it, and who will eventually attain it and be rewarded for it.’ al-Kafi, v. 2, p. 75, no. 6

  الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام - لَمّا سُئلَ عن الصَّبرِ الجميلِ - : ذلكَ صَبرٌ ليسَ فيهِ شَكوى‏ إلى الناسِ . الكافي : 2 / 93 / 23 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) was once asked about graceful patience, to which he replied, ‘That is the patience that is devoid of complaint to other people.’ al-Kafi, v. 2, p. 93, no. 23

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : تَعَلَّمُوا الصِّدقَ قَبلَ الحَديثِ . الكافي : 2 / 104 / 4 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, ‘Learn to tell the truth before you learn to speak.’ al-Kafi, v. 2, p. 104, no. 4

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام - في الإمامِ زينِ العابِدِينَ عليه السلام - : إنّهُ كانَ يَخرُجُ في اللَّيلةِ الظَّلماءِ، فَيَحمِلُ الجِرابَ على‏ ظَهرِهِ حتّى‏ يَأتِيَ باباً باباً، فَيَقرَعَهُ ثمّ يُناوِلَ مَن كانَ يَخرُجُ إلَيهِ، وكانَ يُغَطِّي وَجهَهُ إذا ناوَلَ فَقيراً لِئلّا يَعرِفَهُ . بحار الأنوار : 46 / 89 / 77 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, describing his father Imam Zayn al-Abidin (AS), ‘He used to go out in the dark night carrying a sack on his back and going from door to door, knocking on each and giving to whoever came out to answer it. He used to cover his face when giving to the poor in order that they may not recognise him.’ Bihar al-Anwar, v. 46, p. 89, no. 77
