Birth of Dry Land

Today, the 25th of the lunar month of Zi’l-Qadah is an important day in the history of Planet Earth. It is the day on which dry land emerged for the first time from under the waters, as a step towards sprouting of vegetation and the birth of quadrupeds, and, of course, the descent of the first human being as the best of Gods creation.

“He spread out the earth; and brought forth from it its (sweet) water and pastures; and set firm the mountains; as a [place of] sustenance for you and your livestock.

This is how the Lord Most High informs us in ayahs 30 to 33 of Surah an-Naziyaat in His Final and Universal Revelation to mankind, the Holy Qur’an, of His Bounties, especially the dry earth which He raised from underneath the salty waters and spread it out in the shape of continents on which mountains were raised and through which rivers and springs of fresh water flowed to make the land green with pastures and orchards of fruits and cereals, so that mankind could enjoy these blessings by being thankful to the One and Only Creator.

Today modern science has acknowledged the fact that the oldest part of dry earth is Mecca in Arabia, especially the spot on which the Holy Ka’ba stands and its immediate surroundings. Glory to God for having granted us faith in His Last and Greatest Messenger, Prophet Mohammad (SAWA), and the Infallible Imams of his progeny! It is them, through whom we had learnt the facts of creation over a millennium before modern man began to discover only bits and not the whole, through trial, error, and experiments.

Our religious texts say that the 25th of the month of Zi’l-Qa’dah is the anniversary of “Dahw al-Ardh” or the day on which the first dry spot of land emerged from underneath the vast expanse of water to catch the sun’s rays for the first time. It then, by the Will of God, gradually expanded and spread above the surface of oceans, in order to serve as the cradle for transforming Planet Earth into the brilliant bed of civilization through the efforts and brains of the intelligent two-legged perfectly-moulded creation, called the human race.

Today is that blessed day, on which the faithful, many of them in the state of fasting, after performing a special ritual prayer to thank God for His infinite Favours that no human brain or the most advanced product of the brains of the intelligentsia, that is, the computer, can enumerate, supplicate to Him by reciting the special supplications for this day.

The spectacular progress of mankind, the wonders of science and technology, the venture into outer space after having explored the depths of the oceans, are indeed, all indebted to this day, when dry land in harmony with sweet water made Planet Earth hospitable for life, unlike the barren spherical bodies orbiting the Sun.

The All-Merciful Lord says in ayah 8 of Surah Roum:

“Have they not reflected in their own souls? Allah did not create the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them except with reason and for a specified term. Indeed many of the people disbelieve in the encounter with their Lord.”

Yes, it is Islam, the set of beliefs decreed for the entire human race by the All-Loving Creator, which enlightens us with these dynamic facts, including the exact location of the first spot of dry land to emerge. It was on this spot that the first man was commanded by the Almighty to build the first house. Adam did not built it as his own abode, but as the symbolic House of the Unseen but Omnipresent Lord, Who has neither shape or form, nor is bound by time and place.

Now we understand why the holy Qur’an refers to the holy Ka’ba as the First House. We also begin to realize why the pilgrims from all over the globe start their journey towards it in this sacred month of Zi’l-Qa’dah, so as to be present in time in the initial days of Zi’l-Hijjah for performing the annual Hajj at the place that was rebuilt by Prophet Abraham (AS) and institutionalized as the focal point for all humanity by the Last and Greatest of God’s Messengers, Prophet Mohammad (SAWA).

As God informs us in ayahs 96 and 97 of Surah Aal-e Imran:

“Indeed the First House to be set up for mankind is the one at Bakkah (Mecca); blessed and guidance for all nations. In it, are manifest signs [and] Abraham’s Station, and whoever enters it shall be secure. And it is the duty of mankind toward Allah to make pilgrimage to the House —for those who can afford the journey to it...”

For the information of our readers, it was on the eve of 25th Zi’l-Qa’dah (i.e. Dahw al-Ardh) that Abraham was born in antiquity, while over two millenniums ago, on this same night the Virgin Mary gave birth to Prophet Jesus (peace upon them).    Another interesting fact is that, it will be this very day on which the Prophet of Islam’s 12th and Last Infallible Heir, Imam Mahdi (AS) will reappear to establish the global government of peace, prosperity and justice.

Here is a passage from the special supplication for this day in the Divine Court:

“O Pardoner of slips, pardon my failings! O Answerer of supplications, grant my supplication! O Hearer of all sounds; hear my cry; have mercy on me; and overlook my misdeeds and faults. O Majestic and Munificent One!”
