Sermon 1: Praise is due to Allah whose worth cannot be described….

ومن خطبة له (عليه السلام) يذكر فيها ابتداءَ خلق السماءِ والاَرض، وخلق آدم عليه الصلاة والسلام فيها ذكر الحج
) وتحتوي على حمد الله، وخلق العالم، وخلق الملائكة، واختيار الانبياء، ومبعث النبي، والقرآن، والاحكام الشرعية(
In this sermon he recalls the creation of Earth and Sky and the creation of Adam and in it he mentions the Hajj

الحَمْدُ للهِ الَّذَي لاَ يَبْلُغُ مِدْحَتَهُ القَائِلُونَ،

Praise is due to Allah whose worth cannot be described by speakers,

 وَلاِ يُحْصِي نَعْمَاءَهُ العَادُّونَ،

whose bounties cannot be counted by calculators

ولاَ يُؤَدِّي حَقَّهُ الُمجْتَهِدُونَ،

and whose claim (to obedience) cannot be satisfied by those who attempt to do so,

الَّذِي لاَ يُدْركُهُ بُعْدُ الهِمَمِ،

whom the height of intellectual courage cannot appreciate,

وَلاَ يَنَالُهُ غَوْصُ الفِطَنِ،

and the divings of understanding cannot reach;

الَّذِي لَيْسَ لِصِفَتِهِ حَدٌّ مَحْدُودٌ،

He for whose description no limit has been laid down,

وَلاَ نَعْتٌ مَوْجُودٌ،

no eulogy exists,

وَلا وَقْتٌ مَعْدُودٌ،

no time is ordained

وَلا أَجَلٌ مَمْدُودٌ.

and no duration is fixed.

فَطَرَ الخَلائِقَ بِقُدْرَتِهَ،

He brought forth creation through His Omnipotence,

 وَنَشَرَ الرِّيَاحَ بِرَحْمَتِهِ،

dispersed winds through His Compassion,

وَوَتَّدَ بِالصُّخُورِ مَيَدَانَ أَرْضِهِ.

and made firm the shaking earth with rocks.

أَوَّلُ الدِّينِ مَعْرِفَتُهُ،

The foremost in religion is the acknowledgement of Him,

وَكَمَالُ مَعْرِفَتِهِ التَّصْديقُ بِهِ،

the perfection of acknowledging Him is to testify Him,

وَكَمَالُ التَّصْدِيقِ بِهِ تَوْحِيدُهُ،

the perfection of testifying Him is to believe in His Oneness,

وَكَمَالُ تَوْحِيدِهِ الاخْلاصُ لَهُ،

the perfection of believing in His Oneness is to regard Him Pure,

وَكَمَالُ الاخْلاصِ لَهُ نَفْيُ الصِّفَاتِ عَنْهُ،

and the perfection of His purity is to deny Him attributes,

لِشَهَادَةِ كُلِّ صِفَة أَنَّها غَيْرُ المَوْصُوفِ،

because every attribute is a proof that it is different from that to which it is attributed

وَشَهَادَةِ كُلِّ مَوْصُوف أَنَّهُ غَيْرُ الصِّفَةِ،

and everything to which something is attributed is different from the attribute.

 فَمَنْ وَصَفَ اللهَ سُبْحَانَهُ فَقَدْ قَرَنَهُ،

Thus whoever attaches attributes to Allah recognises His like,

 وَمَنْ قَرَنَهُ فَقَدْ ثَنَّاهُ،

and whoever recognises His like regards Him two;

وَمَنْ ثَنَّاهُ فَقَد جَزَّأَهُ،

and whoever regards Him as two recognises parts for Him;

وَمَنْ جَزَّأَهُ فَقَدْ جَهِلَهُ،

and whoever recognises parts for Him mistook Him;

 وَمَنْ جَهِلَهُ فَقَدْ أشَارَ إِلَيْهِ،

and whoever mistook Him pointed at Him;

وَمَنْ أشَارَ إِلَيْهِ فَقَدْ حَدَّهُ،

and whoever pointed at Him admitted limitations for Him;

وَمَنْ حَدَّهُ فَقَدْ عَدَّهُ،

and whoever admitted limitations for Him numbered Him.

وَمَنْ قَالَ: «فِيمَ» فَقَدْ ضَمَّنَهُ،

Whoever said: ‘In what is He?’, held that He is contained;

وَمَنْ قَالَ: «عَلاَمَ؟» فَقَدْ أَخْلَى مِنُهُ.

and whoever said: ‘On what is He?’, held He is not on something else.

كائِنٌ لاَ عَنْ حَدَث،

He is a Being, but not through phenomenon of coming into being.

مَوْجُودٌ لاَ عَنْ عَدَم،

He exists but not from non-existence.

مَعَ كُلِّ شَيْء لاَ بِمُقَارَنَة،

He is with everything but not in physical nearness.

 وَغَيْرُ كُلِّ شيء لا بِمُزَايَلَة،

He is different from everything but not in physical separation.

فَاعِلٌ لا بِمَعْنَى الْحَرَكَاتِ وَالاْلةِ،

He acts but without connotation of movements and instruments.

بَصِيرٌ إذْ لاَ مَنْظُورَ إلَيْهِ مِنْ خَلْقِهِ،

He sees even when there is none to be looked at from among His creation.

مُتَوَحِّدٌ إذْ لاَ سَكَنَ يَسْتَأْنِسُ بهِ

He is only One, such that there is none with whom He may keep company

وَلاَ يَسْتوْحِشُ لِفَقْدِهِ.

or whom He may miss in his absence.

 

 

خلق العالم

The Creation of the Universe

أَنْشَأَ الخَلْقَ إنْشَاءً،

He initiated creation most initially

وَابْتَدَأَهُ ابْتِدَاءً،

and commenced it originally,

بِلاَ رَوِيَّة أَجَالَهَا،

without undergoing reflection,

وَلاَ تَجْرِبَة اسْتَفَادَهَا،

without making use of any experiment,

وَلاَ حَرَكَة أَحْدَثَهَا،

without innovating any movement,

وَلاَ هَمَامَةِ نَفْس اضطَرَبَ فِيهَا.

and without experiencing any aspiration of mind.

أَحَالَ الاْشياءَ لاِوْقَاتِهَا،

He allotted all things their times,

وَلاَمَ بَيْنَ مُخْتَلِفَاتِهَا،

put together their variations

وَغَرَّزَ غَرائِزَهَا،

gave them their properties,

 وَأَلزَمَهَا أشْبَاحَهَا،

and determined their features

عَالِماً بِهَا قَبْلَ ابْتِدَائِهَا،

knowing them before creating them,

مُحِيطاً بِحُدُودِها وَانْتِهَائِهَا،

realising fully their limits and confines

عَارفاً بِقَرَائِنِها وَأَحْنَائِهَا.

and appreciating their propensities and intricacies.

ثُمَّ أَنْشَأَ ـ سُبْحَانَهُ ـ فَتْقَ الاْجْوَاءِ،

When Almighty created the openings of atmosphere,

وَشَقَّ الاْرْجَاءِ،

expanse of firmament

وَسَكَائِكَ الَهوَاءِ،

and strata of winds,

فأَجازَ فِيهَا مَاءً مُتَلاطِماً تَيَّارُهُ،

He flowed into it water whose waves were stormy

مُتَراكِماً زَخَّارُهُ،

and whose surges leapt one over the other.

حَمَلَهُ عَلَى مَتْنِ .

He loaded it on

الرِّيحِ الْعَاصِفَةِ،

dashing wind

وَالزَّعْزَعِ الْقَاصِفَةِ،

and breaking typhoons,

فَأَمَرَها بِرَدِّهِ،

ordered them to shed it back (as rain),

وَسَلَّطَهَا عَلَى شَدِّهِ،

gave the wind control over the vigour of the rain,

وَقَرنَهَا إِلَى حَدِّهِ،

and acquainted it with its limitations.

الهَوَاءُ مِنْ تَحْتِها فَتِيقٌ،

The wind blew under it

وَالمَاءُ مِنْ فَوْقِهَا دَفِيقٌ.

while water flowed furiously over it.

ثُمَّ أَنْشَأَ سُبْحَانَهُ رِيحاً اعْتَقَمَ مَهَبَّهَا،

Then Almighty created forth wind

وَأَدَامَ مُرَبَّهَا،

and made its movement sterile,

وَأَعْصَفَ مَجْرَاها،

perpetuated its position,

وَأَبْعَدَ مَنْشَاهَا،

intensified its motion and spread it far and wide.

فَأَمَرَها بِتَصْفِيقِ المَاءِ الزَّخَّارِ،

Then He ordered the wind to raise up deep waters

وَإِثَارَةِ مَوْجِ البِحَارِ،

and to intensify the waves of the oceans.

فَمَخَضَتْهُ مَخْضَ السِّقَاءِ،

So the wind churned it like the churning of curd

وَعَصَفَتْ بهِ عَصْفَهَا بِالفَضَاءِ،

and pushed it fiercely into the firmament

تَرُدُّ أَوَّلَهُ عَلَى آخِرِهِ،

throwing its front position on the rear

وَسَاجِيَهُ عَلَى مَائِرِهِ، حَتَّى عَبَّ عُبَابُهُ،

and the stationary on the flowing

وَرَمَى بِالزَّبَدِ رُكَامُهُ،

till its level was raised and the surface was full of foam.

 فَرَفَعَهُ فِي هَوَاء مُنْفَتِق،

Then Almighty raised the foam on to the open wind

وَجَوٍّ مُنْفَهِق،

and vast firmament

فَسَوَّى مِنْهُ سَبْعَ سَموَات،

and made there-from the seven skies

جَعَلَ سُفْلاَهُنَّ مَوْجاً مَكْفُوفاً،

and made the lower one as a stationary surge

وَعُلْيَاهُنَّ سَقْفاً مَحْفُوظاً،

and the upper one as protective ceiling

وَسَمْكاً مَرْفُوعاً،

and a high edifice

بِغَيْر عَمَد يَدْعَمُهَا، وَلا دِسَار يَنْظِمُها.

without any pole to support it or nail to hold it together.

ثُمَّ زَيَّنَهَا بِزينَةِ الكَوَاكِبِ،

Then He decorated them with stars

وَضِياءِ الثَّوَاقِبِ،

and the light of meteors

وَأَجْرَى فِيها سِرَاجاً مُسْتَطِيراً،

and hung in it the shining sun

وَقَمَراً مُنِيراً:

and effulgent moon

في فَلَك دَائِر،

under the revolving sky,

وَسَقْف سَائِر،

moving ceiling

وَرَقِيم مَائِر.

and rotating firmament.

 

 

خلق الملائكة

The Creation of the Angels

ثُمَّ فَتَقَ مَا بَيْنَ السَّمواتِ العُلاَ،

Then He created the openings between high skies

فَمَلاَهُنَّ أَطْواراً مِنْ مَلائِكَتِهِ:

and filled them with all classes of His angels.

مِنْهُمْ سُجُودٌ لاَيَرْكَعُونَ،

Some of them are in prostration and do not kneel up.

وَرُكُوعٌ لاَ يَنْتَصِبُونَ،

Others in kneeling position and do not stand up.

وَصَافُّونَ لاَ يَتَزَايَلُونَ،

Some of them are in array and do not leave their position.

وَمُسَبِّحُونَ لاَ يَسْأَمُونَ،

Others are extolling Allah and do not get tired.

لاَ يَغْشَاهُمْ نَوْمُ العُيُونِ،

The sleep of the eye

 وَلاَ سَهْوُ العُقُولِ،

or the slip of wit,

وَلاَ فَتْرَةُ الاَبْدَانِ،

or languor of the body

ولاَ غَفْلَةُ النِّسْيَانِ.

or the effect of forgetfulness does not effect them.

وَمِنْهُمْ أُمَنَاءُ عَلَى وَحْيِهِ،

Among them are those who work as trusted bearers of His message,

وأَلسِنَةٌ إِلَى رُسُلِهِ،

those who serve as speaking tongues for His prophets

وَمُخْتَلِفُونَ بِقَضَائِهِ وَأَمْرهِ.

and those who carry to and fro His orders and injunctions.

وَمِنْهُمُ الحَفَظَةُ لِعِبَادِهِ،

Among them are the protectors of His creatures

وَالسَّدَنَةُ لاِبْوَابِ جِنَانِهِ.

and guards of the doors of the gardens of Paradise.

وَمِنْهُمُ الثَّابِتَةُ في الاْرَضِينَ السُّفْلَى أَقْدَامُهُمْ،

Among them are those also whose steps are fixed on earth

وَالمَارِقَةُ مِنَ السَّماءِ العُلْيَا أَعْنَاقُهُمْ،

but their necks are protruding into the skies,

والخَارجَةُ مِنَ الاْقْطَارِ أَرْكَانُهُمْ،

their limbs are getting out on all sides,

وَالمُنَاسِبَةُ لِقَوَائِمِ العَرْشِ أَكْتَافُهُمْ،

their shoulders are in accord with the columns of the Divine Throne,

نَاكِسَةٌ دُونَهُ أَبْصارُهُمْ،

their eyes are downcast before it,

مُتَلَفِّعُونَ تَحْتَهُ بِأَجْنِحَتِهِمْ،

they have spread down their wings under it

مَضْرُوبَةٌ بَيْنَهُمْ وَبَيْنَ مِنْ دُونَهُمْ حُجُبُ العِزَّةِ،

and they have rendered between themselves and all else curtains of honour

وَأسْتَارُ القُدْرَةِ،

and screens of power.

لاَ يَتَوَهَّمُونَ رَبَّهُمْ بالتَّصْوِيرِ،

They do not think of their Creator through image,

وَلاَ يُجْرُونَ عَلَيْهِ صِفَاتِ المَصْنُوعِينَ،

do not impute to Him attributes of the created,

وَلاَ يَحُدُّونَهُ بِالاْماكِنِ،

do not confine Him within abodes

وَلاَ يُشِيرُونَ إِلَيْهِ بِالنَّظَائِرِ.

and do not point at Him through illustrations.

 

 

منها: في صفة خلق آدم (عليه السلام)

Description of the Creation of Adam

ثُمَّ جَمَعَ سُبْحَانَهُ مِنْ حَزْنِ الاْرْضِ وَسَهْلِهَا،

Allah collected from hard, soft,

وَعَذْبِهَا وَسَبَخِهَا،

sweet and sour earth,

تُرْبَةً سَنَّهَا بالمَاءِ حَتَّى خَلَصَتْ،

clay which He dripped in water till it got pure,

وَلاَطَهَا بِالبَلَّةِ حَتَّى لَزَبَتْ،

and kneaded it with moisture till it became gluey.

فَجَبَلَ مِنْها صُورَةً ذَاتَ أَحْنَاء وَوُصُول، وَأَعْضَاء وَفُصُول:

From it He carved an image with curves, joints, limbs and segments.

أَجْمَدَهَا حَتَّى اسْتَمْسَكَتْ، وَأَصْلَدَهَا حَتَّى صَلْصَلَتْ،

He solidified it till it dried up

لِوَقْت مَعْدُود، وَأجَل مَعْلُوم،

for a fixed time and a known duration.

ثُمَّ نَفَخَ فِيها مِنْ رُوحِهِ فَمَثُلَتْ إِنْساناً

Then He blew into it out of His Spirit whereupon it took the pattern of a human being

ذَا أَذْهَان يُجيلُهَا،

with mind that governs him,

وَفِكَر يَتَصَرَّفُ بِهَا،

intelligence which he makes use of,

 وَجَوَارِحَ يَخْتَدِمُهَا،

limbs that serve him,

 وَأَدَوَات يُقَلِّبُهَا،

organs that change his position,

وَمَعْرِفَة يَفْرُقُ بِهَا بَيْنَ الحَقِّ وَالبَاطِلِ،

sagacity that differentiates between truth and untruth,

والاَذْوَاقِ والَمشَامِّ، وَالاْلوَانِ وَالاْجْنَاس،

tastes and smells, colours and species.

مَعْجُوناً بطِينَةِ الاْلوَانِ الُمخْتَلِفَةِ،

He is a mixture of clays of different colours,

وَالاَشْبَاهِ المُؤْتَلِفَةِ،

cohesive materials,

وَالاْضْدَادِ المُتَعَادِيَةِ،

divergent contradictories

والاْخْلاطِ المُتَبَايِنَةِ،

and differing properties

مِنَ الحَرِّ والبَرْدِ،

like heat, cold,

وَالبَلَّةِ وَالْجُمُودِ،

softness and hardness,

وَالْمَساءَةِ وَالسُّرُورِ،

grief and joy.

وَاسْتَأْدَى اللهُ سُبْحَانَهُ المَلائكَةَ وَدِيعَتَهُ لَدَيْهِمْ،

Then Allah asked the angels to fulfil His promise with them

وَعَهْدَ وَصِيَّتِهِ إِلَيْهمْ،

and to accomplish the pledge of His injunction to them

في الاْذْعَانِ بالسُّجُودِ لَهُ،

by acknowledging Him through prostration to Him

وَالخُنُوعِ لِتَكْرِمَتِهِ،

and submission to His honoured position.

فَقَالَ عزَّمِن قائِل:

So Allah said:

( اسْجُدُوا لاِدَمَ فَسَجَدُوا إِلاَّ إِبْلِيسَ)،

“Be prostrate towards Adam and they prostrated except Iblis (Satan).” (Qur’an, 2:34; 7:11; 17:61; 18:50; 20:116)

اعْتَرَتْهُ الحَمِيَّةُ،

Self-importance withheld him

وَغَلَبَتْ عَلَيْهِ الشِّقْوَةُ،

and vice overcame him.

وَتَعَزَّزُ بِخِلْقَةِ النَّارِ،

So that he took pride in his own creation with fire

وَاسْتَوْهَنَ خَلْقَ الصَّلْصَالِ،

and treated contemptuously the creation of clay.

فَأَعْطَاهُ اللهُ تَعالَى النَّظِرَةَ اسْتِحْقَاقاً لِلسُّخْطَةِ،

So Allah allowed him time in order to let him fully deserve His wrath,

وَاسْتِتْماماً لِلْبَلِيَّةِ،

and to complete (man’s) test

وَإِنْجَازاً لِلْعِدَةِ، فَقَالَ:

and to fulfil the promise (He had made to Satan). Thus, He said:

(إنَّكَ مِنَ المُنْظَرِينَ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْوَقْتِ الْمَعْلُومِ)

“Verily you have been allowed time till the known Day. “ (Qur’an, 15:38; 38:81)

ثُمَّ أَسْكَنَ سُبْحَانَهُ آدَمَ دَاراً أرْغَدَ فِيهَاعَيْشَهُ،

Thereafter, Allah inhabited Adam (p.b.u.h.) in a house where He made his life pleasant

 وَآمَنَ فِيهَا مَحَلَّتَهُ،

and his stay safe,

وَحَذَّرَهُ إِبْلِيسَ وَعَدَاوَتَهُ،

and He cautioned him of Iblis and his enmity.

فَاغْتَرَّهُ عَدُوُّهُ نَفَاسَةً عَلَيْهِ بِدَارِ الْمُقَامِ،

Then his enemy (Iblis) envied his abiding in Paradise

وَمُرَافَقَةِ الاْبْرَارِ،

and his contacts with the virtuous.

فَبَاعَ الْيَقِينَ بِشَكِّهِ،

So he changed his conviction into wavering

وَالعَزِيمَةَ بِوَهْنِهِ،

and determination into weakness.

وَاسْتَبْدَلَ بِالْجَذَلِ وَجَلاً،

He thus converted his happiness into fear

وَبِالاْغْتِرَارِ نَدَماً.

and his prestige into shame.

 ثُمَّ بَسَطَ اللهُ سُبْحَانَهُ لَهُ في تَوْبَتِهِ،

Then Allah offered to Adam (p.b.u.h.) the chance to repent,

 وَلَقَّاهُ كَلِمَةَ رَحْمَتِهِ،

taught him words of His Mercy,

وَوَعَدَهُ المَرَدَّ إِلَى جَنَّتِهِ،

promised him return to His Paradise

فَأَهْبَطَهُ إِلَى دَارِ الَبَلِيَّةِ،

and sent him down to the place of trial

وَتَنَاسُلِ الذُّرِّيَّةِ.

and procreation of progeny.

 

 

  اختيار الانبياء

Allah chooses His Prophets

    وَاصْطَفى سُبْحَانَهُ مِنْ وَلَدَهِ أَنْبيَاءَ أَخَذَ عَلَى الْوَحْيِ مِيثَاقَهُم،

From his (Adam’s) progeny Allah chose prophets and took their pledge for his revelation

وَعَلَى تَبْليغِ الرِّسَالَةِ أَمَانَتَهُمْ،

and for carrying His message as their trust.

لَمَّا بَدَّلَ أَكْثَرُ خَلْقِهِ عَهْدَ اللهِ إِلَيْهِمْ،

In course of time many people perverted Allah’s trust with them

فَجَهِلُوا حَقَّهُ،

and ignored His position

واتَّخَذُوا الاْنْدَادَ مَعَهُ،

and took compeers along with Him.

وَاجْتَالَتْهُمُ الشَّيَاطِينُ عَنْ مَعْرفَتِهِ،

Satan turned them away from knowing Him

وَاقتَطَعَتْهُمْ عَنْ عِبَادَتِهِ،

and kept them aloof from His worship.

فَبَعَثَ فِيهمْ رُسُلَهُ،

Then Allah sent His Messengers

وَوَاتَرَ إِلَيْهِمْ أَنْبِياءَهُ،

and series of His prophets towards them

لِيَسْتَأْدُوهُمْ مِيثَاقَ فِطْرَتِهِ،

to get them to fulfil the pledges of His creation,

وَيُذَكِّرُوهُمْ مَنْسِيَّ نِعْمَتِهِ،

to recall to them His bounties,

وَيَحْتَجُّوا عَلَيْهِمْ بَالتَّبْلِيغِ،

to exhort them by preaching,

وَيُثِيرُوا لَهُمْ دَفَائِنَ الْعُقُولِ،

to unveil before them the hidden virtues of wisdom

وَيُرُوهُمْ آيَاتِ الْمَقْدِرَةِ: مِنْ سَقْف فَوْقَهُمْ مَرْفُوع،

and show them the signs of His Omnipotence namely the sky which is raised over them,

وَمِهَاد تَحْتَهُمْ مَوْضُوع،

the earth that is placed beneath them,

وَمَعَايِشَ تُحْيِيهِمْ، وَآجَال تُفْنِيهمْ،

means of living that sustain them, deaths that make them die,

وَأَوْصَاب(5) تُهْرِمُهُمْ، وَأَحْدَاث تَتَابَعُ عَلَيْهِمْ،

ailments that turn them old and incidents that successively betake them.

 لَمْ يُخْلِ اللهُ سُبْحَانَهُ خَلْقَهُ مِنْ نَبِيٍّ مُرْسَل،

Allah never allowed His creation to remain without a Prophet deputised by Him,

أَوْ كِتَاب مُنْزَل،

or a book sent down from Him

أَوْ حُجَّة لاَزِمَة،

or a binding argument

أَوْ مَحَجَّة قَائِمَة،

or a standing plea.

رُسُلٌ لا تُقَصِّرُ بِهِمْ قِلَّةُ عَدَدِهِمْ،

These Messengers were such that they did not feel little because of smallness of their number

وَلاَ كَثْرَةُ المُكَذِّبِينَ لَهُمْ:

or of largeness of the number of their falsifiers.

مِنْ سَابِق سُمِّيَ لَهُ مَنْ بَعْدَهُ،

Among them was either a predecessor who would name the one to follow

أَوْ غَابِر عَرَّفَهُ مَنْ قَبْلَهُ.

or the follower who had been introduced by the predecessor.

   

 

مبعث النبي (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)

The Prophethood of Muhammad

عَلَى ذْلِكَ نَسَلَتِ القُرُونُ،

In this way ages passed by

وَمَضَتِ الدُّهُورُ،

and times rolled on,

وَسَلَفَتِ الاْباءُ،

fathers passed away

وَخَلَفَتِ الاْبْنَاءُ.

while sons took their places

الَى أَنْ بَعَثَ اللهُ سُبْحَانَهُ مُحَمَّداً(صلى الله عليه وآله)

till Allah deputised Muhammad (peace be upon him and his progeny) as His Prophet,

لاِنْجَازِ عِدَتِهِ وَتَمامِ نُبُوَّتِهِ،

in fulfilment of His promise and in completion of His Prophethood.

مَأْخُوذاً عَلَى النَّبِيِّينَ مِيثَاقُهُ،

His pledge had been taken from the Prophets,

مَشْهُورَةً سِمَاتُهُ، كَرِيماً مِيلادُهُ.

his traits of character were well reputed and his birth was honourable.

وَأهْلُ الاْرْضِ يَوْمَئِذ مِلَلٌ مُتَفَرِّقَةٌ،

The people of the earth at this time were divided in different parties,

 وَأَهْوَاءٌ مُنْتَشِرَةٌ،

their aims were separate

وَطَرَائِقُ مُتَشَتِّتَةٌ،

and ways were diverse.

بَيْنَ مُشَبِّه للهِ بِخَلْقِهِ،

They either likened Allah with His creation

أَوْ مُلْحِد في اسْمِهِ،

or twisted His Names

أَوْ مُشِير إِلَى غَيْرهِ،

or turned to else than Him.

فَهَدَاهُمْ بهِ مِنَ الضَّلاَلَةِ،

Through Muhammad (S) Allah guided them out of wrong

وَأَنْقَذَهُمْ بمَكانِهِ مِنَ الجَهَالَةِ.

and with his efforts took them out of ignorance.

ثُمَّ اخْتَارَ سُبْحَانَهُ لِمحَمَّد صلى الله عليه لِقَاءَهُ،

Then Allah chose for Muhammad, peace be upon him and on his progeny, to meet Him,

وَرَضِيَ لَهُ مَا عِنْدَهُ،

selected him for His own nearness,

فَأَكْرَمَهُ عَنْ دَارِالدُّنْيَا،

regarded him too dignified to remain in this world

وَرَغِبَ بِهَ عَنْ مُقَارَنَةِ البَلْوَى،

and decided to remove him from this place of trial.

فَقَبَضَهُ إِلَيْهِ كَرِيماً صَلَّى اللهُ علَيهِ و آلِهِ،

So He drew him towards Himself with honour. Allah may shower His blessing on him, and his progeny.

 

 

القرآن والاحکام الشرعیة

The Holy Quran and Sunnah

وَخَلَّفَ فِيكُمْ مَا خَلَّفَتِ الاْنْبيَاءُ في أُمَمِها،

But the Prophet left among you the same which other Prophets left among their peoples,

إذْ لَم يَتْرُكُوهُمْ هَمَلاً،

because Prophets do not leave them untended (in dark)

بِغَيْر طَريق واضِح،

without a clear path

ولاَعَلَمٍ قَائِم.

and a standing ensign,

كِتَابَ رَبِّكُمْ [فِيكُمْ:] مُبَيِّناً حَلاَلَهُ وَحَرامَهُ،

namely the Book of your Creator clarifying its permission and prohibitions,

وَفَرَائِضَهُ وَفَضَائِلَهُ،

its obligations and discretion,

وَنَاسِخَهُ وَمَنْسُوخَهُ،

its repealing injunctions and the repealed ones,

وَرُخَصَهُ وَعَزَائِمَهُ،

its permissible matters and compulsory ones,

وَخَاصَّهُ وَعَامَّهُ،

its particulars and the general ones,

وَعِبَرَهُ وَأَمْثَالَهُ،

its lessons and illustrations,

وَمُرْسَلَهُ وَمَحْدُودَهُ،

its long and the short ones,

وَمُحْكَمَهُ وَمُتَشَابِهَهُ،

its clear and obscure ones,

مُفَسِّراً جُمَلَهُ،

detailing its abbreviations

وَمُبَيِّناً غَوَامِضَهُ.

and clarifying its obscurities.

بَيْنَ مَأْخُوذ مِيثَاقُ عِلْمِهِ،

In it there are some verses whose knowledge is obligatory

وَمُوَسَّع عَلَى العِبَادِ في جَهْلِهِ،

and others whose ignorance by the people is permissible.

وَبَيْنَ مُثْبَت في الكِتابِ فَرْضُهُ،

It also contains what appears to be obligatory according to the Book2

وَمَعْلُوم في السُّنَّهِ نَسْخُهُ،

but its repeal is signified by the Prophet’s action (sunnah)

وَوَاجب في السُّنَّةِ أَخْذُهُ،

or that which appears compulsory according to the Prophet’s action

وَمُرَخَّص في الكِتابِ تَرْكُهُ،

but the Book allows not following it.

وَبَيْنَ وَاجِب بِوَقْتِهِ،

Or there are those which are obligatory in a given time

وَزَائِل في مُسْتَقْبَلِهِ،

but not so after that time.

وَمُبَايَنٌ بَيْنَ مَحَارِمِهِ،

Its prohibitions also differ.

مِنْ كَبير أَوْعَدَ عَلَيْهِ نِيرَانَهُ،

Some are major regarding which there exists the threat of fire (Hell),

أَوْ صَغِير أَرْصَدَ لَهُ غُفْرَانَهُ،

and others are minor for which there are prospects of forgiveness.

وَبَيْنَ مَقْبُول في أَدْنَاهُ،

There are also those of which a small portion is also acceptable (to Allah)

ومُوَسَّع في أَقْصَاهُ.

but they are capable of being expanded.

 

 

    و[منها:] في ذكر الحج

In this very sermon he spoke about Hajj

وَفَرَضَ عَلَيْكُمْ حَجَّ بَيْتِهِ الحَرَامِ،

Allah has made obligatory upon you the pilgrimage (Hajj) to His sacred House

الَّذِي جَعَلَهُ قِبْلَةً لِلاْنَامِ،

which is the turning point for the people

يَرِدُونَهُ وُرُودَ الاَنْعَامِ،

who go to it as beasts

وَيأْلَهُونَ إِلَيْهِ وُلُوهَ الحَمَامِ.

or pigeons go towards spring water.

جَعَلَهُ سُبْحَانَهُ عَلاَمَةً لِتَوَاضُعِهمْ لِعَظَمَتِهِ،

Allah the glorified made it a sign of their supplication before His Greatness

وَإِذْعَانِهِمْ لِعِزَّتِهِ،

and their acknowledgement of His Dignity.

وَاخْتَارَ مِنْ خَلْقِهِ سُمَّاعاً أَجَابُوا إِلَيْهِ دَعْوَتَهُ،

He selected from among His creation those who on listening to His call responded to it

وَصَدَّقُوا كَلِمَتِهُ،

and testified His word.

وَوَقَفُوا مَوَاقِفَ أَنْبِيَائِهِ،

They stood in the position of His Prophets

وَتَشَبَّهُوا بمَلاَئِكَتِهِ المُطِيفِينَ بِعَرْشِهِ،

and resembled His angels who surround the Divine Throne

يُحْرِزُونَ الاْرْبَاحَ فِي مَتْجَرِ عِبَادَتِهِ،

securing all the benefits of performing His worship

وَيَتَبَادَرُونَ عِنْدَهُ مَوْعِدَ مَغْفِرَتِهِ.

and hastening towards His promised forgiveness.

جَعَلَهُ سُبْحَانَهُ لِلاِسْلامِ عَلَماً،

Allah the glorified made it (His sacred House) an emblem for Islam

وَلِلْعَائِذِينَ حَرَماً،

and an object of respect for those who turn to it.

فَرَضَ حَجَّهُ،

He made obligatory its pilgrimage

وَأَوْجَبَ حَقَّهُ،

and laid down its claim

وَكَتَبَ عَلَيْكُمْ وِفَادَتَهُ،

for which He held you responsible to discharge it.

فَقَالَ سُبْحَانَهُ:

Thus, Allah, the Glorified, said:

 (وَللهِ عَلَى النَّاسِ حِجُّ الْبَيْتِ مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ إِلَيْهِ سَبِيلاً وَمَنْ كَفَرَ فَإِنَّ اللهَ غَنِيٌّ عَنِ العَالَمينَ).

“. . . And (purely) for Allah, is incumbent upon mankind, the pilgrimage to the House, for those who can afford to journey thither. And whoever denieth then verily, Allah is Self-sufficiently independent of the worlds” (Qur’an, 3:96).
