IBNA- In the meeting, Practical Mysticism in ‘Nahj al-Balagha’ (Peak of Eloquence), Hujjatulislam Kavoos Rouhi said: “In his letters in Nahj al-Balagha, Imam Ali (AS) focuses on piety.”

According to IBNA correspondent, the meeting, Practical Mysticism in ‘Nahj al-Balagha’ was held on Sunday, January 31, 2016. The event was attended by audiences interested in religion studies, and took place in the Institute for Humanities and Cultural Studies.

In this event, Hujjatulislam Rouhi, a faculty member of Tarbiat Modarres University pointed to the piety of the faithful and said: “Reviewing piety in practical mysticism, we are trying to find out whether we can present an accurate definition of piety by using ‘Nahj al-Balagha’ text, and the other question is whether piety can be best defined as devoting the heart to God only.”

“Virtue creates a condition in man following fear and hope that prevents him from doing the wrong thing. According to late Allameh Tabatabai, virtue is not a degree of faith but is eliminating polytheism from the heart,” he stated.

The faculty member of Tarbiat Modarres University asserted that monotheism means worshipping God only, and added: “Practical unity of faith from the view of by Imam Ali (AS) in ‘Nahj al-Balagha’ is the highest stage of faith and despite the emphasis placed on piety in this book, I should say that what is read in ‘Nahj al-Balagha’ is a high concept considered by Imam Ali for piety and this is why mystics deal with its excellent concepts to understand the meaning of piety which has been referred to in ‘Nahj al-Balagha’.”
