Head of the National Library and Archives Organization of Iran (NLAI) said the National Library plans to launch a museum of Quran and Kitaba (inscription).

Speaking during a visit to the International Quran News Agency (IQNA), Seyed Reza Salehi Amiri added that a building has been designated for the museum and it will be inaugurated in the near future.

He added that there are also plans to obtain Quran copies from around the world to develop the Quran treasury of the National Library.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Salehi Amiri expressed concerns over the situation in regional countries, especially Syria, which, among other things, has posed threats to rare manuscript copies of the Quran and other books.

The spread of terrorist groups in the Middle East countries has endangered the cultural heritage of these countries.

In Syria and Iraq, for example, the two countries’ invaluable cultural heritable is in serious danger as artifacts and rare manuscripts are either smuggled across borders or destroyed at the hands of Takfiri militants like the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorist group.

Reports show that thousands of Syrian and Iraqi artifacts have so far been smuggled out by mafias and gangs.

Moreover, the foreign-backed Takfiri militants have launched a systematic program of damaging and destroying historic sites.

The ISIL militants have seized swathes of land in Syria and Iraq, terrorizing and killing people of all communities, including Shias, Sunnis, Kurds and Christians, in the areas they are controlling.
