The status of Imam Ali (AS) in Sunni sources was discussed in a workshop held in Addis Ababa for new converts to Shia Islam in Ethiopia and Somalia.

According to IQNA’s branch in Africa, the workshop was organized by the Iranian Cultural Center in Ethiopia in cooperation with Shia Muslims in the region.

A Husseiniya (public hall for religious ceremonies) in Meganania, Addis Ababa suburbs, hosted the program for one week.

Experts in theology clarified Shia principles and beliefs for the participants in the workshop.

Seyyed Kazem Mehrniya, Iranian cultural attaché in Ethiopia, also addressed the program talking about the status of the first infallible Imam (AS) and Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) in the Holy Quran and their virtues and characteristics as well as the social situation in their time.

At the end of the program, the participants were granted 50 copies of Islamic books translated into Amharic and Somali languages and some copies of the Holy Quran and Mafatih.
