Allameh Tabatabee University professor Hossein Mollanazar made the announcement in a forum held Tuesday at the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization to discuss English renderings of Islam s Holy Book.

He said the conference will be organized by Allameh Tabatabaee University on December 15-19.

He added that it will feature Quran translations in eight languages, namely English, Spanish, Turkish, Arabic, Persian, Russian, Chinese and French.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Mollanazar referred to the issue of translatability of the Quran and said while the translation of the Quran is not the same as the Word of God itself, rendering the Holy Book into different languages is necessary in order to convey the message of the Quran to speakers of different languages.

He said the main difficulty in translation of the Quran is conveying the different layers of meaning to the reader.

The university scholar also underlined that translators of the Quran should consider the language and level of the target readers while doing the rendering.
