The forum was attended by Dr Majid Maaref, who supervises the translation of the work into Persian, and Khandaqabadi, a member of the translation team.

Dr Maaref said the orientalists who study the Quran usually do so with a negative attitude.

He stated, however, that the Encyclopaedia of the Quran is a fully scientific and academic work and that is an asset for the Encyclopaedia.

The expert added that the authors of the Encyclopaedia s articles have tried to be impartial.

He referred to the use of comparative studies as another advantage of the EQ, which might also be considered a weakness from some aspects in that it implies that the Quran has been influenced by the Old and New Testaments.

Dr Maaref said two volumes of the work have been translated into Persian so far, noting that the second volume is more related to Quranic issues than the first.

He further referred to the weak points of the EQ and said it has made little use of Shia sources.

Later in the forum, Khandaqabadi said the target audience of the Encyclopaedia of the Quran is a work for experts in the field not and that its target audience is not the general public.

The forum was organized at the conference hall of the Holy Defense Garden-Museum, which hosts the 22nd International Holy Quran Exhibition until July 13.

The Encyclopaedia of the Quran is an academic work with articles on the most important themes and subjects of the Holy Quran.

According to the publisher, Brill, the encyclopedia combines alphabetically arranged articles about the contents of the Quran.

"It is an encyclopaedic dictionary of Quranic terms, concepts, personalities, place names, cultural history and exegesis extended with essays on the most important themes and subjects within Quranic studies," it writes.
