Shahr Allah fi al-Kitab wa al-Sunnah

(The Month of God (Ramadhan) in the Book and Sunnah)

With the collaboration of Rasul Ofoqi, Qom: Dar al-Hadith, 1st ed., 2003, 628 pages, Arabic.

Ramadhan has been called the Month of God and the month of divine banquet, with various reasons underlying these titles. The present work is an attempt to unveil the greatness of this month and its significance in the Holy Quran and Hadith. In the introduction, the author enumerates the other designations of the month and elaborates its various meanings, discusses the history of fasting in other religions and schools, and examines the meaning of divine banquet in the Holy Quran and Hadith.

The book is a comprehensive and systematic account of the characteristics, virtues, and rites of the holy month of Ramadan and fasting, based on the teachings of the Holy Quran, and the hadiths of the Holy Prophet and the Infallibles (PBUT). The methodology of the author, similar to his other works, is topical and an attempt is made to include all the existing hadiths relating to a particular topic, from both Shi`ite and Sunni sources, without duplication. The hadiths are arranged in a chronological order, starting with those of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) up to Imam Mahdi, while the references are also mentioned.

The book is divided into five parts, with several chapters.

Part one presents hadiths dealing with the greatness, characteristics and virtues of the month of Ramadan as well as the mode of enjoying the blessings of this holy month.

Part two, titled "Preparedness and readiness for the month of God", contains a collection of hadiths relating to the understanding of this banquet and the means and supplications for becoming prepared for this blessed month. It also elaborates the stages of fasting and the methods of enhancing its benefits through special diet.

Part three presents hadiths on the rites, supplications and recommended practices of the month of Ramadan; the special rites of various nights of this month; the rites of the days of Ramadan; and the rituals of the last ten days of the month of Ramadan.

Part four includes hadiths relating to the characteristics, virtues and rites of the Night of Qadr (Grand Night).

Part five is devoted to the hadiths relating to the rites of bidding farewell to the divine banquet and the month of Ramadan. In this section, the author elaborates the rites of bidding Ramadan farewell as well as the rites of `Id al-Fitr, based on Hadith.

The work is translated into Persian and published along with Arabic text with the following bibliographical data: The Month of God: a comprehensive examination of the holy month of Ramadan from the viewpoints of the Holy Quran and Hadith, trans.
