IBNA: The senior researcher and expert in Arabic language asserted that the translation of the holy Quran should be compared with European projects to translate religious texts into various languages.

In Europe, there is a wave of research projects on translation of their religious texts into other languages and there is a system for finding the exact equivalent of every single term in the source and target languages, he explained. Addressing a session in assessment of translations of the holy Quran into Persian, Azarnoush further added that Europeans enjoy state-of-the-art tools for their linguistic projects by which they can properly analyze their works; however, Iranian translations are devoid of such tools and still adhere to old references to get the job done. He further argued that when a European translator decides to render an Arabic word into their desired language, they have all the required means to fathom out the depth of the meaning of all the works and how they have been used by Arabs throughout history and under various periods of time. In other words, European translators are able to convey their understanding of Quranic words to Eastern researchers based on their studies and the means they have access to. He commented on the use of Hadith and Islamic stories for translation of the holy Quran into Persian, and posited that western researcher do not appreciate Hadith as we do in Iran. “Hadith is credited for us as they are, but it is not viewed as veritable reference for westerners,” he added. He stressed the need for understanding morphology, etymology and language encyclopedias in various languages for providing a better translation of the holy Quran. “Iranian researchers should know European languages so long as many religious resources provided by westerners are available only in European languages,” he went on to add. “We should not rely on western research works only because of the fact that Europeans are not that much positive about our works.” So far as many as 850 Persian translations of the holy Quran have been provided by Iranians of which 300 belong to the years after the victory of the Islamic Revolution, he said, adding that more individuals need to be trained with enough acquaintance with ancient languages and Hebrew who will provide better works on the holy Quran and its translations.
