Review of Al-Hadith al-Nabawi Bayn al-Riwaya wa al-Diraya

This book is concerned with a reconsideration of the case of authentic versus forged hadiths, and the criteria to distinguish themThe author, a leading figure in the field, divides the book into two parts. In the first part, he introduces the tools and criteria to recognize the anthenticity and/or forgedness of hadiths. Also treated is the necessity of purification of Prophetic hadiths from the forged Israelite ones. Al-Subhani mentions the methods of evaluating the hadiths formulated so far and cites some of the books written by our Sunnite brethren. He regards the method of evaluating the hadiths in the light of the Quran and Sunna the best. In the second part, forty famous companions of the Prophet are briefly introduced, together with examining some of the hadiths related from them against the criteria of the Quran, hadith, intellect, consensus, and historical accounts.
