499. The Elements of Covetousness

1500.رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : اعْلَمْ يا عليُّ ، أنّ الجُبْنَ والبُخْلَ والحِرْصَ غَريزَةٌ واحِدَةٌ ، يَجْمَعُها سُوءُ الظَّنِّ .1

1500.The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'Know O Ali, that cowardice, miserliness, and covetousness are all a single disposition, brought together through entertaining a low opinion [of Allah].' 2

1501.رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : إنّ ابنَ آدمَ لَحَريصٌ على‏ ما مُنِعَ .3

1501.The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'Truly the son of Adam covets what is prohibited.' 4

1502.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : على‏ الشَّكِّ وقِلَّةِ الثِّقَةِ باللَّهِ ، مَبْنى‏ الحِرصِ والشُّحِّ .5

1502.Imam Ali (AS) said, 'Covetousness and meanness are founded on doubt and lack of trust in Allah.' 6

1503.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : شِدَّةُ الحِرصِ مِن قُوَّةِ الشَّرَهِ وضَعْفِ الدِّينِ .7

1503.Imam Ali (AS) said, 'Intense covetousness arises from ardent gluttony and weakness of faith.' 8
